The SGA Gen Comment-A-Thon Pt. 1

To kick off the new year I present to you a challenge - the SGA gen comment-a-thon challenge (yeah, changed the title. I just really didn't like “non-kink meme.”) There are no due dates, no end dates, so feel free to participate whenever you want.

Rules: You'll be presented with a list of prompts. The challenge, should you choose to accept it...

Readers: Pick a prompt from the list below – only one – and request a story based on that prompt using the following format:

Writers: Pick a request and comment with a story or pick a prompt from the list and comment directly with a story. Posting a story in your own journal or elsewhere is allowed so long as you comment here with the link. Please put the title of your story and/or (should you not have a title yet) rating in the comment header. If you are commenting directly with a prompt of your choosing, please put the prompt at the start of the story (Ex. Prompt: *your prompt here*). Also please warn for anything you feel should be warned for (blood, violence, torture, etc) at the start of the story.

But here is the catch: The story must be gen. Gen, for this meme, are stories that do not focus on a pairing nor anything sexual, though acknowledging canon pairings is fine so long as they are not the focus.

One look at their worried faces told John how to act. He wrangled in the pain, forcing it into that dark place that held so many other secrets, most recently his guilt over Sumner. He smiled, joked. When the cramps got bad, he shifted in a natural way so they wouldn't suspect. He scrutinized them but found no wounds, as Carson had said. At least he'd brought this group home safely.

He held his composure until he heard the door shut after Elizabeth. Then he pressed his face in the pillow to muffle the scream. Carson came running anyway.

"I knew that was a bad idea."

John shook his head, unable to hold back the tears that squeezed out the corners of his eyes. "Needed... to see them. Make sure."

Carson narrowed his eyes as he massaged the cramps in John's leg. "You are going to cause me a lot of trouble, aren't you?"

"That's what they all say." John drew in a shaky breath. "I feel like I have the flu." He pushed himself up as the cute nurse from earlier brought a folder to Carson.

"I bet you do." Carson tapped the folder. "Results on the venom. The cramps will probably persist for a few days and you'll alternate between chills and perspiring."

"Oh, joy."

"The good news is I can treat the symptoms, ease the pain a little."

"Just a little?"

"I wish I could do more." Carson shook his head. "I'm amazed you're even awake. According to this analysis, you should be comatose. You must have an incredibly high pain tolerance."

John smiled as he settled back in bed and watched the syringe plunge help into his IV. "They all say that, too."

"Try to get some rest."

He closed his eyes but didn't relax until the drug finally took the edge off. Exhausted beyond anything he'd ever experienced, he slipped into sleep.

I love reading tags to this episode, and yours was great! Nice take on it, that John was still in pain but hiding it when his team came to visit. The show kind of led you to believe otherwise, but I always found that to be a bit of a stretch after all that he'd been through. Thanks for sharing! :)
