Basements + Cheap Houses = Not good :(

So the house my sister in law found for us is out, as is two other houses we looked at, and all because of their basements (well, there were other problems with one of the houses, but the basement was what broke the deal). Upstairs, everything was fine and dandy, but the basements... cracking, leaking, making us question the integrity of the house as a whole. The reason we wanted a basement was to store some of our stuff. Plus, we live in Kansas and it would have been nice to go somewhere during tornados that didn't give us the creeps and make us fret about being buried alive in a teeny-tiny space :S.

So houses with basements are out. We're just going to have to rely on a garage to store our stuff.

I'm sorry to hear about the houses. Hopefully something better will come along very soon. Good luck and don't get too discouraged.

Sorry to hear about a couple of your possible houses. Cracking, leaking basements are bad though - used to work in an environmental lab and we had home inspectors and remediation companies as clients. Unidentified leaks or water damage that's not take care of promptly or properly can lead to a lot of other problems.

Especially since it's the basement where we wanted to store our stuff. Plus we're sick of mold. The house we're living in now we suspect has some mold problems that's been wreaking havoc on our allergies. It'll be nice to live somewhere that doesn't make us wonder what the crap might be growing behind the walls :P.
