Question for Merlin Fans

Especially those who read Merlin fic.

I've been getting into Merlin as of late and from what I've seen, I have to ask...

Or, I should say, let me guess...

Woobie!Merlin fic are all the rage? Yes? No? Because from what I've seen, oh my word, the Merlin woobie potential. So much. So much to work with!

But *shrugs* I could be wrong. Sometimes fandoms do have a way of surprising me.

And, yes, I am interested in some Merlin recs if anyone knows of some good H/C. Just no heavy kinky torture stuff (you know the kind, page after page of the characters strung up, whipped and mutilated). As usual, gen only please, and I mean gen. It really bugs me when I ask for gen and someone still recs me NC-17 slash. Also, I'm cool with spoilers so no worries there.

Gen is somewhat hard to come by in the Merlin fandom - you'll find the gen writers mostly at ff.net, otherwise, it's mostly slash.

For Woobie stories - there isn't really one I remember which I can wholeheartly recommend, but naturally they exist. They excisted mostly during the first and second season, since the third season, the tendency has shifted mostly to Merlin being bamf.

The most popular theme are magic reveals stories either way...

But for gen, I suggest to look at the stories of those two writers:

KT has some slash smattered inbetween, but most of her stories are gen. And as far as I remember, both writers also have some H/C to offer.

Oh, there is soooooo much woobie!Merlin. However, most of it that I've seen has involved ship - the absolute best h/c fics I've read in the fandom have been Arthur/Merlin. There isn't really a lot of gen that I've found, actually.

However, I only dabble in the fandom, so I'm not an expert or anything!

Heh, after watching one episode my first thought was "this fandom must have a lot of woobie fic";) It's just so perfect for woobie fic.

And, yeah, I also figured it would probably slash heavy to boot *sad sigh*

Ultra-Geek on FF.net has some nice gen stories, humor and H/C. For the latter, check out To Serve and Protect and The Lost.

But like what most people have said, not too much gen fic in this fandom, which is a shame.

Thanks! :D

I actually find myself tempted to contribute a gen fic or two but... I don't know enough about the show to attempt it :/
