Ah, the Woes of Dog Walking

So I was doing my volunteer round in the iso units at the Humane Society and taking each of the iso dogs outside to potty (they have a little area designated just for them). I don't mind taking the dogs out but they can be pretty frisky, and the big dogs make me nervous, not because they're aggressive, they're just big! So this one big guy decides he's going to circle around me, and I have to spin around quick to keep the leash from tangling around my legs. My ankle twists rather uncomfortably and I just manage to keep myself from falling. But I'm perfectly fine. In fact my ankle felt great and I was able to go about the rest of my day without issue.

Then I get home, and about two or three hours after the incident my ankle is swollen and killing me and I want to rip my foot off just to spite it (pain makes me incredibly, irrationally angry). So I do all the stuff you need to do for a twisted ankle and it's much better, though still tender.

But, still... can a twisted ankle do that? Start hurting hours later? That was just incredibly odd. Last time I bunged up my ankle in started hurting minutes later, not two friggin' hours later! But it's not as bad as last time so hopefully it'll clear up sooner. Still. Two hours later. It's like my body remembered "oh, right, I'm supposed to be in pain right now. Oops."

(Also, this must not be a good month for ankles. My sister-in-law broke her ankle just last week).

(Also, also, it seems someone's been breaking into cars in our neighborhood, and a family relation has gone off the deep end again and is causing all kinds of grief. I'm starting to think June has it out for us :/)

probably pulled some ligaments/tendons ie sprain
I wish you had some Arnica cream to rub on it or to take by mouth (pop under tongue no water needed)
It works wonders for this sort of thing......swelling, sprains etc.

Probably. It just boggles me that it took so dang long to act up. Not that I'm complaining. Definitely not - I would have hated to end up all limpy and in pain while still at the shelter. It's just strange is all.

I wonder if Walmart has that cream.

I would imagine it would given how many are now carrying
homeopathics
ARNICA MONTANA cream or gel
I used it for sprains and such and it works to
get rid of swelling and pain...........

I think it's possible. My mom once cracked a bone in her wrist and didn't even realize until the next day, when it had swollen and become incredibly painful.

... which obviously doesn't make it fun. *hugs* I hope the rest of the summer is smoother sailing than the first part of it!

The body is so weird, sometimes. IT must not have been that bad of a twist, because it's feeling a lot better (and I recall last time it taking forever just to stop aching). It makes me wonder if I did something else to it - something that triggered the pain and swelling - when I got home.

I had something similar a few years back, tripped over in the garden and although it hurt a little at the time I didn't think much of it. Carried on walking about as normal but later that evening after I'd been sitting down for a while it became excruciatingly painful, so much so I couldn't even bear anyone to touch it. I was worried I'd broken it but it turned out to just be a sprain. Still very painful though.

Would you be able to go get an x-ray to check it out anyway? Just to be on the safe side. Either way, I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you. :D

Once I iced it and got the swelling down it started feeling a heck of a lot better. In fact it no longer hurts at all, now. It makes me wonder if it wasn't that bad of a twist, but the pressure of the swelling was what made it hurt so bad. I'm still being careful with it, but the way it feels now it's more like I just bruised it a little than twisted it.

Weirdly enough, a first sprain hurts instantly. With a second sprain on the same joint, the pain can be delayed some. No idea why, it does happen that way, though.

Hmmm. Well, this sprain was o the other ankle. I'm thinking it was the swelling that made it hurt, because once I iced and elevated it, it started feeling a lot better, and now it doesn't hurt at all.

Yes, your ankle can do that. I've had it happen to me.

True. LOL
