Yep, Another Poll

This is mostly just to help me make up my mind on where I should post my online novel, since I can't decide.

[Poll #2003657]

depends on what you want - I love reading stories over on AO3... but well - depending on how much response you want lj might be a better bet (shorter parts = easier to reply and find spesific things+... In general AO3 is not good for private replies... just easier in many ways with lj and for me its easier to comment on lj rather than just leave a kudos on AO3...)... So... ...if you post a link from here or even on lj then wordpress is an option... in my opinion at least... :)

fictionpress is good for original fiction.

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2015-03-15 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I do have a Fictionpress account but I want this story to have its own space so that it doesn't get lost in a sea of other fic. I do plan on posting it on Fictionpress, but only after it's been up on it's own site for a while.

Does AO3 even have a place for original works? I looked at one time but could never find anything.

I'm mostly just looking for a place to both post the story and customize around the story, which both LJ and Wordpress will allow me to do. This poll is mostly just to help me make up my mind on which to go for. Feedback... well, while feedback will be allowed, overall it's not the biggest priority.

I read more LJ, but I think Wordpress is considered a bit more high-brow. If you make the story it's own journal or community, I think LJ would be a great place to post it.

For Ao3 - http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Original%20Work/works (yes they do have the tag...) :)

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2015-03-16 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
On, nifty! I do plan on posting the story on other sites once it's been up at the official site for a while, so this will definitely come in handy.

:D Will read it regardless (but can't wait until its been posted on AO3):D:D:D

What do you mean by "customize around the story"?

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2015-03-16 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Add pictures within the story, have background art based on the story, maybe have discussion posts, and so on. It's why I don't want to post to places like AO3 or Fictionpress, because I want the story to be able to have its own space where I can customize things how I want, and where it won't get lost among thousands of other fic.

In that case, I'd say Wordpress, because you have the options of page vs. post, and you can do all sorts of things with the menus that aren't available on LJ. Not to mention it has a much more user-friendly "insert/manage media" setup.

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2015-03-18 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Very true, plus I believe they allow longer content. I'd forgotten that LJ tends to limit the word count of a post. It was part of why I stopped posting fic, here.

I picked A03 because you can post large stuff there. But then again you have to be a member to have access so people that don't belong won't see it.

You don't need to be a member of AO3 to read stuff there unless you -- the "you" who's posting the fic -- specifically lock your fic so it's members-only, and most people don't. (It's not really a big venue for original fiction, though. I don't think a lot of people look for that kind of thing on there.)

[identity profile] timespirt.livejournal.com 2015-03-17 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, wordpress might be a better deal.

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2015-03-16 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, as I've commented to others, the problem with AO3 is that it means the story getting lost within thousands of other fic. I want this story to have its own space, preferably a place that I can customize (add pictures and backgrounds based on the story, have story discussions, etc). And places like AO3 or Fictionpress aren't good for that.

[identity profile] timespirt.livejournal.com 2015-03-17 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Wordpress then, they seem to be great for long stuff.

I love AO3. But, live journal is great too.

[identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com 2015-03-16 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
AO3 is a bit too crowded, plus I can't customize it. I am definitely favoring LJ, though.

I'll read it wherever you put it.

You might want to check out Wattpad. I have been seriously thinking about test-serializing something there. Apparently it has a HUGE readership, especially for YA stuff (and this project is YA if I remember right?). It's sort of like the new ff.net for teen/early-20-somethings, except it has a ton of original stuff in addition to fanfic -- most of it awful, but apparently it's possible to get a really big readership there, if you can manage to hit whatever's "hot".

ETA: Otherwise, if I were doing it, I'd probably use Wordpress because it looks more professional than LJ. On the other hand, since most of your existing readers are on LJ, that's a good argument for using LJ - er, I'm super helpful, aren't I? XD

You can also make RSS feeds from Wordpress that people on LJ can follow, and you can set up your Wordpress account so it crossposts to your LJ too.

Hmmm, Wattpad. I'll check that out. I do have plans that once the story has been on its own site for a while to post chapters elsewhere like Fictionpress.

Ack! So many decisions *flails* I do find myself leaning more toward LJ, however, since as you said I have more readers here. Plus I know how to use LJ a little better than Wordpress.

But, dang it, Wordpress is just so pretty.

Oh, I just remembered. LJ has that spam issue :P Unless it isn't an issue anymore since I haven't been getting any spam comments. Hmmm...
