I was cooking today, and my mind tends to wander to the craziest things while cooking.Today's crazy was the movie Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary Grant, and that if they ever decided to do a remake, they should have Joe F. play Grant's part. I think he would be great in that movie. I can totally picture it, and really enjoy doing so :D

Then, sticking with Cary Grant films, I pondered if Joe would also be good in Bringing up Baby, but then decided that David Hewlitt would probably be better. I can totally see him playing a part like that ;)

Agree? Disagree? Still with me or did I scare you off? If you haven't see either of these movies, then I highly recommend them. They're both comedies and both good times.

I never really saw them but remember something of what they were about. I agree with your assessment of who would be good in those roles.

How about Joe playing the lead in Barefoot in the Park or the lead in Tiffany's?

I love those movies!!

I'd love to see him do either or both...Topper and North by Northwest.

God, he'd be terrific!

Oh nonononono, do not let them remake Arsenic & Old Lace. NOTHING can top the performances in that movie. I really would dread to see the casting plus script changes for that. Bringing Up Baby? Hmm, for some reason I thought they had or were thinking of it, or had copied it into something so different and unrecognizable, but yeah, david hewlett would do good in that kind of flick.

Actually, I liked Uncle Teddy the best *g* and now I'm trying to think of who could play him. It was a character part.

Arsenic and Old Lace is one of my favorite movies of all time. And they can't remake it. And nobody can do Hitchcock except Hitchcock. But Bringing Up Baby...It's been a long time since I've seen it. Joe needs a vehicle though. He needs something so I can see him weekly.

I'm already in withdrawals!

Arsenic and Old Lace is possibly my most favorite Cary Grant movie. However, I think I would redux Philadelphia Story. Joe in Cary's role, and David in Jimmy Stewart's role. Oh dear. That's got me pondering. As if I don't have enough on my plate! I want to write a version of In Name Only, one of the hardest Cary Grant Movies to get my hands on.

*Nods* Very true, especially since most remakes aren't really remakes but "based on 'this movie'" which, in my opinion, is skirting the line of plagerism without actually crossing.

But I still like the idea of Joe being in Arsenic and Old Lace :D. But maybe that's because he does sometimes remind me of Cary Grant, but that's just me.

Haven't seen that one. There's a lot of classics I'd like to see, but they're hard to find in terms of renting them, and I prefer seeing a movie first before buying it.

Date: 2009-01-30 09:37 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
True. Doing remakes is walking a fine line that most end up crossing. On the other hand, I'm of the mindset of anything being possible if one actually puts effort into it. i.e. stick with what made the original good instead of trying to do their own thing.

Goodness, yes! Joe needs to be in something, something unique and interesting that really make use of his skills.

Those classics are darned tempting ;). I'd actually pondered an Arsenic and Old Lace SGA AU, but it didn't last long.

I think Joe would do great in any of those movies. After thinking about it, I'd come to realize that Joe kind of reminds me of Cary Grant. And it would just be cool to see Joe in the lead role of an actual movie ;)

Totally! I think he would rock in movies like that. *Shakes fist at Hollywood* Hire him! Hire him consarnit!

Joe and Cary

I can totally see a little Cary Grant in Joe Flanigan. I think Joe would be great in the lead in "Only Angels Have Wings". Very good movie. Also, "The Awful Truth", "Destination Tokyo", "North by Northwest". Not to take anything away from Cary Grant...whom I adore. - Diane, IN

I just wouldn't trust the writers/producers not to totally screw it up. Really. They do it with 99% of the remakes, alas :(

Seem both, but I think Joe would be great in BiB. Why, Grant didn't really seem like he would have been the guy to play that part with all the suave good looks, Joe is kinda the same(not so much suave, just natural good looks). David has the natural humor, but Grant gave the role the same kind of quirkyness that I think Joe could do. JMO

A grand idea.....I think he could pull it off
beautifully.........
I want to see him succeed in so many different
ways in film and this would be one of them.....

Yes, Philadelphia Story! I could so see both of them in that. The female lead would be the hardest to cast, Kate Hepburn! Hello!

If I were thinking of a movie, Gunga Din or a variation on that. Even wanted to that as an AU.

It would be awesome. But, knowing Hollywood, they'd go for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise. Nothing against those guys, they just have a name that sells. Which sucks, because I so want to see Joe in one of these movies, now.

Date: 2009-01-31 02:00 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
That's true. I will admit to being biased. Grant's character in BUB was very timid, and because I haven't seen Joe play a timid character before, I have a hard time picturing him in such a role. However, if he went with being more high-strung that just timid, then I can picture it. Joe is very good at doing high-strung, I think.

Date: 2009-01-31 02:05 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Yeah, but there's still the little matter of Hollywood going for a bigger name (such as Brad Pitt), because big names sell :P. That's the only setback.

I just hope Joe is in something good, something that lets him really shine. My biggest concern about where he'll end up next is that he'll be cast in some lawyer or doctor show as yet another hot doctor/lawyer who sleeps with everyone :P:P:P:P. Same with cop shows - wouldn't mind seeing him as a cop, but not if he ends up being another pretty face with a cliche personality.

I mean, I loved Topper. But, I could really, really see Joe in North by Northwest. That part is just MADE for him.

Uncle Teddy was in Arsenic and Old Lace. He was Cary Grant's uncle who lived with the two old dears. He was hilarious :D

Date: 2009-01-31 05:56 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
*Slaps forehead* I thought you were talking about a movie, not a character from a movie. I remember uncle Teddy, and the Aunts always getting him to dig "the Panama Canal" so they could bury the bodies ;).

Date: 2009-02-02 08:12 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] timespirt.livejournal.com
I can agree with that!

Date: 2009-05-12 01:30 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] space1traveler.livejournal.com
This is crazy. After my little blurb on JF playing in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and other James Stewart movies. Here I am 'going through your stuff' and what do I read. I cracked up with delight.

David Hewlitt doing "Bringing Up Baby" oh yeah he would do that one right.

But John in Holiday... The scene where they tumble down the hallway. David as the brother who's always drunk. Can't you just see him in that role? That would be lovely.

Date: 2009-05-12 04:23 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Ah, this just goes to show just how much fangirl brains think alike ;) I haven't seen Holiday - most of my viewing of the classics are limited since, for me, seeing any of them is a matter of chance. And video stories are completely useless :P

Right now I'd be happy to see Joe in anything. Well, not anything. I want to see him in something interesting, with lots of action, and not the usual lawyer/doctor/cop dramas. And I definitely don't want to see him as a cameo appearance. I've been looking at some of the stuff he's been in in the past - mostly cameos and mostly as a romantic interest. He's good, but it's not exactly a role that really lets him shine. I want him to be in something where his acting skills get a good work-ou ;)
