*Pumps fist*
Nov. 11th, 2011 09:59 pmI just finished my Sheppard HC secret Santa fic! But writing it kind of made me miss the show and all the wacky adventures. There were so many possibilities that could have been explored. Yes, there is fanfic, but I miss actually seeing the team in action.
On another writing front, I'm over 18,000 words into my new original story and really enjoying it. I'm having a little trouble getting a handle on one of my main characters, who's a ten year old girl. But the more I write the more I'm starting to figure her out. Still, writing kids is hard, especially when they're the POV character. I've had to adjust my style a little in order to balance writing the way I normally do and keeping the little girl a little girl. The real tricky part, though, is... well... keeping the little girl a little girl: making her smart enough to keep up with the situation but without her ending up an overly precocious little brat who gets away with everything. Still, it's an interesting challenge.

I am so, so close to dredging up enough motivation to finish the amnesia Sheppard story. I think I would have actually written some today but needed to refresh myself with the plot and plan what happens next.
But it's a tentative motivation right now so I don't know if it'll stick around long enough for me to get this puppy done. I do plan on watching some SGA episodes to see if that helps. It might also help to read some fic, so recommendations would be awesome (mostly just to narrow down the choices since there's so many). What I need is something well written, something with a meaty plot and that's more than just Shep whump (I want Shep whump, of course, I just don't want the focus to be strictly Shep whump - hope that makes sense).
I want to finish this story so bad! But apparently that isn't enough to actually get me to finish it. What sucks is that I'm so near the end, but therein lies the problem. It's been such an emotionally heavy story, and nearing the end, heading into twice-as-emotionally-heavy territory, it kind of, sort of, scared me off. Last time I wrote something this drama-packed it tired me out and I temporarily lost the will to write (I know that sounds like an exaggeration but it's true, I really did), and it's made me hesitant to put that much effort and time into a fanfic ever again.
But maybe now that enough time has passed, that won't be the case. So here's hoping that by next week, I'm back to writing this sucker.
