I'm not so sure I really like having cable. I mean, yes, it means watching shows that, otherwise, we were unable to watch before. But those shows add up to a grand total of two. Yes, it means seeing movies for free, but there in lies the kicker. It also means giving in to the temptation of watching rated R flicks, as that darn curiosity of mine always compels me to find out what happens.

When it comes to rated R shows, it's not so much the cussing or the gore that's the issue (well, not entirely), but how the movie leaves me feeling after its over. Especially movies that contain the violent deaths of a lot of innocent people (Ex. just watched Alien Vs Predator: Reqiuem... ug *feels nauseas*. I love both Aliens and Predator, but that movie didn't just leave me feeling ill, it left me feeling slightly depressed.) I like a little violence, I like a little blood, I love a lot of whump but even I have my limits. Gore for the sake of gore is that limit.

And I don't think I need to tell anyone how much Sci-Fi original movies suck. They really are like a car wreck - you want to turn away, but can't seem to.

Maybe I've learned my lesson, but I'm kind of worried I haven't. I have very crappy will power when it comes to stories and movies. Plus I doubt I'll have any will power if Pan's Labrynth happens to play, as I really want to see it (please not HBO, please not HBO, please not HBO *crosses fingers*)

After a while you burn out. When we had pay TV I ended up watching the news channels. There's only so much of that you can watch.

We used to have cable for a while, then got rid of it when we first moved to Kansas. I used to stay up past the wee hours watching crappy - and sometimes not-so-crappy - horror movies. Sometimes they were on channels that sensored, sometimes on HBO. I'd also watch four or five shows at the same time because they were on at the same time, and this was before DVR (I'd flip between the shows). For a person with my imagination, that was a lot of stimulation. Too much, in fact, so I was actually happy when we got rid of cable.

Now that we have it back, it's mostly the rated R shows that are a problem. Though we are doing better on cutting back. It had been - I think - a whole two weeks since the last R rated movie. Then I caved *hangs head in shame*.

There are some rated R movies that only have a few words that can't be said for PG. They might not be too bad. It sounds like you lean towards the more violent ones though. Maybe after a while you will develop the will power to resist.

I don't mind the violent ones but there are some out there that just give me the chills for how senselessly violent they are. An alien on a killing spree and people trying to stop it....my mind can handle that. A psychopath on the loose with police after him...not a fun thing but I can still handle that. I just didn't like the ones that people go around killing/hurting others for no reason and worse....getting away with it. I think I need to see that what is happening is not ok and someone will eventually get in trouble.

I completely agree with your assessment of SciFi original movies. My problem is is that they are so bad, sometimes they are so funny and while they are supposed to be scary, they are just funny! I enjoy watching the History and Discovery Channels. Educational and entertaining!

I'm weak, I tells ya! And I never learn, because curiosity rules me :S

At most, there were three shows I had to watch. One I got bored with, another was cancelled, so that leaves one. You'd think I'd watch less TV, but boredom and the need to veg will get the better of me, sometimes.

I'm more a fan of action than violence, and too much violence - too much of anything (violence, swearing, gore, sex) has a way of sticking in the mind, popping up at the worst possible time or just bringing me down emotionally. Most R rated movies are easy enough to avoid, but with the action/adventure/gore ones, they involve situations that hook you because you want to know the outcome. I never watch the movies straight through but will flip between them and another show, which doesn't really lessen the effects of the R rated show.

I love making fun of sci-fi movies. It's just so dang easy and fun. On the down side, it has a way of taitning my imagination, and I need to watch well-made stuff just to clean out of the gunk the sci-fi movies leave behind.

Yes, the History Channel is very cool :D

I spend as much time on the computer (would like to spend all my time LOL) as I can, sometimes all night. I have the TV on a lot for background. The Shows I couldn't not watch is/was SGA, Numb3rs and Criminal minds. I can live with just listening to the others
