Needless to say but I will say it all the same - Spoilers :D
wierd, but the fun kind of wierd that isn't so over the top as to turn even someone like me off, but not so tame as to feel forced and blah - the kind of wierd I love ;). I'm a big fan of surreal fantasies: in that you don't know why this stuff is happening - or how it's even possible according to the "real world" - but that doesn't matter because it's too fascinating to matter. It's very much a modern day fairytale, which I'm also a big fan of.
And on the flip side - for being a fantasy and stop-animation - the characters' personalities came off as very real (though the two former actresses were a little iffy, but still amusing so I didn't mind :D). Coraline especially, because with kid heroes you either kind of like them or don't like them at all. Coraline I liked a lot, and the black cat who helps her out (being a cat lover, that was a major plus as cats are either treated as the throw-away pets to be eaten by the monster or the bad guy.)
My only nits were two - the scene in the alternate "happy" world with the two former actresses performing, and the one with the ample chest wearing next to nothing. That bothered because her chest was riduclously huge and Coraline is supposed to be a kids show. I just felt that it went a little too far. Finally, watching it through 3-D glasses but that's more a personal issue. Allergies were making me feeling a little off and looking through those glasses weren't helping. They were uncomfortable on my face and I couldn't adjust my sight in a way that didn't give me a headache. Which is a bummer because the 3-D effects were pretty cool.
All in all, I would definitely say that Coraline is my favorite stop-action movie.
Previews: We saw previews for the next Tim Burton Movie - 9. And it looks friggin' awesome! Seriously, look it up, check out the previews. It actually gave me chills. I am totally looking forward to this one :D
