Cat Update
Sep. 11th, 2012 08:44 pmSo... I didn't adopt the cat. But he was adopted so that's a good thing. And though I am a teeny-tiny bit sad about it, overall I feel it to be the right decision. Our house is pretty crowded as is with three cats, five dogs plus family living with us for the time being and their two cat-chasing dogs (which has reduced the number of cat litter boxes to one since the cats can't go into the basement). But the overall deciding factor was the fact that my room - the only place in the house where I would have been able to keep the cat until he acclimated - is the only room where I can keep both the cat litter and the cat food. My sister dislikes cats and my mom's room is the "dog" room, and the basement is off limits what with the cat-chasing dogs living in it. The cats need to be able to get into my room, not just for the food and litter box but also because it's the room where they feel the safests, especially where my cat Roxy is concerned, who's skittish and barely leaves my room these days.
But even had we free run of the basement to keep the cat until he felt comfortable, I still don't think I would have gotten him. I'm too much of a cat lady as is what with my three indoors and five ferals. That I practiced such self-restraint has actually brought me quite a bit of relief. I wasn't kidding when I said I worry about becoming a cat lady - specifically a cat hoarder - but thise proves that, yes, I do have self-control after all, that I'm not the kind of person to bring a cat in at the drop of a hat, I do know when and where to draw the line.
Although, on the other hand, should this ever happen again in which I come across a cat I <i>must have</i> - screw self-control, I'm getting it. I've never agonized this much over getting an animal and I'm not going to agonize over one a second time, I'm just going to get it.
