Attention Artists!!!!!!
Mar. 29th, 2014 10:31 pmI'm currently working on a free (as in this isn't for money) original fiction series that I plan to post in installments at my author site, Dreamscapes, and one of the things I would like to do is include some art work. I was going to do the artwork myself, but then thought that it might be both cool and fun to make this a joint project with anyone either looking to advertise their art skills, use their art skills more often, or who would enjoy doing a few pictures (I'm thinking four at most, maybe five, but not a lot) for a story.
The story is a steampunk fantasy (but with the focus more on the fantasy aspect) about five characters born with magical knowledge (called Craft). So far I have three installments in mind. The first installment will focus on the characters individually and their individual adventures, the second installment will be the characters meeting each other and having a joint adventure, and the third installment will be the characters working together to fight a threat. Each character will have a certain magical talent that, while not unique to them alone, they happen to be incredibly skilled at. There's a scry, a sea-wizard (who is also a selkie), a girl who can see and talk to the dead, a woman who's a shapeshifter, and a young man skilled with illusions.
I'm currently working on the scry's story. I would like to post these at least monthly, but since I'm also working on another novel, it may be every month and a half or two months until the novel is done (or, just, basically whenever I get the next installment done).
They're fairly quiet stories in that there's not a lot of big action. They're mostly mysteries and, this being me, have a fair amount of something light and something dark.
If anyone thinks they may be interested in participating, let me know and I'll send a part of the story to you to see if it inspires you. If it does, I'll send the rest of the story when I've finished writing it (and cleaning it up a bit). If it doesn't inspire, or the story just isn't your cup of tea, that's totally fine, just let me know. If you'd rather wait to see if you'd rather do art for any of the other installments, that's fine too. As for what I'm looking for in the art, basically something that reflects the mood and atmosphere of the story. It can be specific scenes, parts of the setting or the characters or creatures. It can be in color, black and white, pencil, charcoal, paintings or digital paintings, even photos you've taken. But please no photo manipulations or photos taken by someone else.
If I get more than one person who wants to participate then it'll all come down to whose ever art I feel best reflects the current vignette. So when I send the sample of my story and decide you want to do art for it, send me a sample of what you have in mind of what you'd like to do - just something quick and easy to give me an idea of what you'd have in store. But please don't feel bad if I don't choose you, because it won't mean that I think your art isn't good, and there will be other vignettes (in fact it would be kind of cool if each vignette had its own style. Not a must, just that it would be neat).
If I do choose you and when the art is ready, send me a link to whatever art site you have that you'd like me to link to. If you want your art site linked, that is.
So if you think you'd like to give it a go, please comment or send me a PM with your e-mail address.
