Shout-Outs
Jan. 6th, 2015 01:20 pmSo something I would really like to do on my author site is shout-outs or mentions. Basically, if you're someone who has a web comic, or web book, art or craft - or if you know a really good web comic, or web book, or art or craft - I'd love to give it a shout-out... if it meets my criteria, of course. Since I'm pretty much a writer of fantasy and sci-fi only, then I would only want to give shout-outs to fantasy or sci-fi related works. So, for example, I probably wouldn't give a shout-out to someone who made dolls unless those dolls were, say, aliens or elves or fairies. (
imbecamiel, if you and your sister still make steampunk jewlery, that's something I'd talk about on my blog). The work's contents must also be PG-13 or under. No hard R. Whether the work is aimed at adults or young adults, as long as it doesn't contain explicit sex, a whole lot of gore, and a mess of swearing, then it's good to go (my blog is aimed at both adults and young adults, since what I write is pretty much suitable for both, with the only difference being the ages of the protagonists).
So if you have something or know works that need more of an audience, let me know. You can either PM me or leave a comment. I only need a description and a link so I can check it out.
Also, keep in mind that recc'ing me a work isn't a guarantee that it'll get a shout-out. Not getting a shout-out doesn't mean I thought it absolutely sucked, but maybe that I thought it wasn't apporpriate for my blog, or there was something I personally didn't like about it (an example would be someone who does fairy sculptures but they're all scantily clad and look like their twleve years old. I came across sculptures like that, once. They looked like naked little twlve-year-old strippers :P Another example would be a comic that's well written with great art, but portrays, say, religion in a way I don't really agree with. Or it really is a work I just don't think is that good - kind of like with fanfic and how there's fanfic people praise like it's the best thing ever, but it's actually quite terrible).
So if you have a work, or know of a work, that you feel should get a shout-out, let me know.
