I have two TV shows I'm into! Crazy, I know. So far the only shows I'd been watching were Elementary and Sleepy Hollow, then just Elementary.
Now I have Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and Humans. (Mild spoilers ahead, but nothing major).
Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell - It's basically the kind of TV show I've been waiting for my whole life: quirky, strange, just a touch dark as well as a touch whimsical. I'm really loving how it delves into the hubris of being a magician, and the contrast between Johnathan and Norrell. You have Norrell who wants to bring back magic at any cost and screw the consequences, and Johnathan who's trying to use magic for good and generally be a decent human being but kind of having a hard time of it (the most recent episode was really heartbreaking). It's a show I now look forward to every week and one I watch as soon as possible. Feels like forever since I looked forward to a show this much.
Humans - Okay, I'll be honest, I'm mostly watching this one for Colin Morgan. I love watching the guy act, he's so superb at it. And, as usual, he's playing a character with a story arc that is both intriguing and heartbreaking (and there's whump!), because that's what Colin is good at (the little punk). His relationship with his synth brother, Maxie, is just so dang adorable I can hardly stand it (and also because Maxie is rather adorable). I'm also really liking the George and Odie story arc (I love William hurt. He's also a superb actor I enjoy watching, and he and Colin have played their parts brilliantly thus far). My only nit-pick is the family story arc which I feel to be over-loaded with cliches: the pouty, rude teenage daughter, the horny teenage son, the jealous wife, the husband who's attracted to the family synth, the little girl who favors the synth over her mom. However, I do like that instead of it being Anita/Mai developing self-awareness, she was already self-aware, then ereased, but now that self-awareness is coming back.
However, as to whether this is a show I'll stick with remains to be seen. It's based off of a Swedish show, which I read about, and if the show sticks to the same plotlines as it's Swedish counterpart I may end up with a reason not to continue. Not because the story quality declines, but because of how particular story arc ends, but that's all I'll say.
