I really got into Cowboy Bebop this year and have finished watching all twenty-six episodes. It's a great anime, gritty but fun and that knows how to utilize music (rather than sticking in the random good song just because they think it makes them look cool).

But there's been a rumor of CB being made into a live-action movie (I checked out IMDb. It's there, but so far there's no info on it). Rumor also has it that Keanu Reeves is being considered for the role of Spike.

Yeah, sorry, Keanu but no. Just... no. No offense against him but, again, no. No way. And this coming from someone who's usually pretty easy to please. Spike, to me, is sardonically jaded and dorktastic (calm, cool, tough but dorky at times). Keanu... is not, and I'm not sure he's the type of actor who can pull off being tough and dorky at the same time. And without the combination of tough and dorky, Spike will not be Spike and the movie will suck eggs.

Which inevitably led me to thinking who would be better for the role. And the more I thought about it, the more my mind went straight to Joe F. I swear it's not just because I love Joe - I'm not one of those fans who thinks he would be good in every single solitary role there is to play out there. Joe does dorktastic so wonderfully that's it's easy to picture him playing a character like Spike. Chris Pine is another who comes to mind (Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot). He strikes me as being capable of pulling off a good Spike. Heck I even think Matt Bomer (Neal from White Collar) would do a decent job.

To me, although Spike isn't exactly a multifaceted personality, he needs to be played by someone who can pull off more than just blankly stoic and emo. He needs to be played by someone who can make him more than just a card-board cutout hero.

As for Jet, I don't know who they have in mind for him but personally I think either Bruce Willis or Ron Perlman (Hell Boy, Josiah from M7) would be awesome. Ron Perlman especially, because every time I see Jet my mind goes straight to Perlman.

Faye, I'm not sure who would be good for her role, but like with Spike she needs someone who has personality, as Faye is also dorktastic :D

Ein, he's a dog. The movie better have Ein. If I ever get a Corgie I'm gonna name it Ein :D

Ed... Ed is tough, because Ed is weird. I can't even begin to think who would be good playing her. But Ed is awesome, so they'd better get someone good.

Anyway, those are my thoughts and opinions on the matter.

The Keanu rumours are pretty old, I remember reading them several years ago but nothing ever came of them. I've not heard anything recent about there being a live action version, is it being talked up again?

I'm not sure how old the rumors are (I'll look it up), and they're probably rumors of rumors. I checked out IMBd and they had the movie scheduled for 2011. But, yeah, I know, not a guarantee (and for all I know they've been changing the date for some time).

The talk just got me thinking like crazy. I think this is the first time I've ever been adamant about who plays a particular character. Usually I'm neither here nor there about it, but not this time, it seems.

Plus I love pondering who would be good playing which character if they ever made *insert whatever book/comic/cartoon here* into a live action movie :D
