“Go! Go! Go!” The entire team pelted through the undergrowth, beating back branches and leaving scrapes on bared skin. “Ronon! Which way?” Sheppard shouted, taking a quick glance behind him.

A bullet impacted a tree near Rodney’s head. “Come on!”

Rodney changed direction and closed in on Ronon.

After another shot landed near Teyla‘s feet, Sheppard shouted, “Find cover!”

They all dropped behind the closest natural defensive position, which happened to be rotten logs and dirt mounds.

“What’d we do?” yelled Rodney.

“Who are they?” Sheppard wanted to know.

“Does it really matter?” answered Teyla.

“Gate is around the next bend,” offered Ronon.

“Then let’s get the hell out of here!” decided Sheppard. He peeked over his dirt mound. Shadows moved in the trees just yards away. “Teyla, Rodney, make a run for the Gate. Ronon, you and me get suppression duty.”

“But…” Rodney started as Teyla positioned herself.

“No arguments. Now go!” Ronon and Sheppard started firing and Teyla and Rodney started running. Yells, screams and bullets came from the owners of the shadows.

Ronon fired toward the other side of the dirt road. “Sheppard, look!”

A shadow coalesced into a tube that looked suspiciously like a grenade launcher.

Sheppard jumped up and ran, shoving Ronon ahead of him. “Move!”

He heard it go off and felt the concussion of the round hitting behind them-- probably where they had been positioned. Dirt and debris flew peppering them with their hiding places. They rounded the bend and the Gate stood sparkling blue with Rodney and Teyla standing guard.

“Go! Don’t wait for us!” Another thwump sounded and whistling sailed through the air. Rodney’s eyes widened. “Mortars?”

“Go!” Sheppard screamed at him. Ronon pushed, Teyla pulled, and Sheppard brought up the rear. The explosion propelled him through the blue and sent him hurtling into the Gate Room. Hands were on him immediately.

“Shield! Shield!” yelled Rodney right in his ear.

Sheppard opened his eyes and his team was down on the floor with him huddled together in a pile. They looked back as the shield shimmered and impacts shined like mini stars. They huddled closer together.

Elizabeth swiftly descended the stairs. “Colonel! What happened? It‘s been fifteen minutes!”

Sheppard looked at the finally inactive Gate. His back stung from bits of planet and shrapnel because it was a long fifteen minutes. He swallowed and then spoke. “I guess whoever they are decided not to trade with us-- ever.”

Ronon laughed and gathered their little pile into a humongous hug. “And I thought you people didn’t know how to have a good time!”

On that note, Sheppard requested the med team and slumped contentedly into his team.
