I'm an iTunes girl. I have an iPod, but if you don't, you can always play them on your computer. As another poster said, iTunes is free. The songs have tiered pricing, but there is little you can't find on there. And if you have CDs, you can add them to your iTunes, categorize them ('80s, Christmas, country, anything you can think of) and then play them by playlist.
