Hooooooo dang! You know, it's funny because I had a feeling that they might end things by putting a wedge between Peter and Neal. But the whole "Did Neal betray Peter?" was kind of blown by the note at Neal's apartment and the shocked look on his face when he went to the warehouse and saw the treasure. If he had lied to Peter, he wouldn't have looked shocked, he would have looked smug. I think the real question is, will he tell Peter? And who saved the treasure? Alex? Someone else?

I'm not sure what to think about Peter's reaction. I know Peter had his reasons to automatically suspect Neal but... Neal has never lied to him and Peter knows that. Talk about your knee-jerk reactions. I wonder if this will result in a bunch of tags in which Peter is made to feel guilty until he apologizes to a woobie Neal. Hey, it's only fair ;) (and, no, I have intentions of writing such fic). Canon-wise, I wonder if the show will go for a quick fix or use this loss of trust as part of the season three arc?

I'm glad they dealt with the Neal/Alex, Neal/Sara thing a little bit. Personally I took Neal's kissing Alex as his own knee-jerk reaction. They were alive, high on adrenaline, and Neal reacted. But it made me squirm. I have no love for romantic story arcs (pun intended) for this very reason - all the obnoxious complications for the sake of making things interesting, how one party comes off looking like a jerk and the other a heart broken but whiny woobie, and, of course, the time wasted on sex scenes, time that could have been used for advancing the plot.

But that they didn't leave this particular issue hanging too badly made me relieved.

Adler getting shot by Peter was... kind of anti-climatic to me, especially when compared to what happened in Point Blank. I guess I would have liked Adler to escape to be the bane to Neal another day. After all, Adler's supposed to be this genius always one step ahead. For him to die like he did, it was just too quick. I had wanted more (namely Adler kidnapping Neal and Peter trying to find them, maybe thinking Neal had run but not being sure).

Ugh. I think I'm turning into one of those viewers that expects too much from a show :S I really hope not, but I haven't been too happy with the second half of the season. It's not that the episodes sucked or anything, just that there was a lot the eps did that I'm not a fan of, things that the show hadn't been doing up until now. It's because the show wasn't doing these "things" that makes up part of why I fell in love with the show in the first place. But then comes the second half of the season and we're getting these "things" in spades and it kind of depressed me.

All that said, though, it was a wonderfully intense episode. And though I wasn't all that half with the second half of the season, I do think the season as a whole was pretty good. I'm sure that once I give the second half of the season another look (when I get the DVDs) I'll enjoy them completely (except Forging Bonds. didn't really like that ep).

ETA: After giving it some thought, there is a chance Neal could have been in on getting to the treasure, but he had honestly thought the treasure had gone up in flames. Thus his surprise when he sees it intact. Though I honestly hope that's not the case. I'm going to be ticked if the last two seasons have been nothing but one giant con. Unless during said giant con, Neal came to realize he wasn't interested in playing the game anymore, and instead of leaving with the treasure tells Peter about it.

So much to consider! :D
