And the school setting itself is hardly original either...not even that fact that it's a magical school. It has been done before. But not in as detailed and not in this way.
I think you can sell your readers nearly everything, as long as it's well written. It's not the basic story idea which has to be creative, it's the execution which makes everything interesting. Disney has demonstrated this for years, by rewriting known stories for their own purpose.
