OH NEAL. ♥ This is an absolutely gorgeous character portrait; it says so much with so few words. I especially love how you characterize Neal seeing himself as a blank canvas at the age of 18 (particularly since that part is vague enough it'll probably work with whatever canon eventually reveals *g*) and the end broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes. It'll be okay! It has to be. *wibbles*
