Argh! Argh, Argh, Argh! And More Argh!

So I finally found a Merlin Holiday fic exchange comm, except they have a limit of only forty writers being able to sign up, and it's first come, first serve. And of course I was too late to sign up and I am so... very not happy about it.

Since it's an exchange I can understand wanting to keep things to a minimum to make things less complicated, but participation limits are also incredibly frustrating since there's so much stress involved in trying to meet the deadline. And I also find it a tad unfair for those who, for whatever reason, can't meet the deadline nor do they have or can find a proxy to sign up for them.

It's also frustrating because I have been looking everywhere for some kind of Merlin fic exchange or Merlin comment-a-thon or something that isn't a friggn' kink-meme so that my prompts have more of a fighting chance. Yet every time I find something it's either closed down or I'm too late to participate. And Gen Table doesn't exactly have a ton of participants, let alone enough to do a holiday exchange.

So all that said, does anyone know of any multi-fandom comms doing holiday exchanges or comment-a-thons or just someplace you can post a prompt (not kink-memes)? Is fandom stocking open, yet? I just want to post a Merlin prompt or two! *headdesk*

What about Yuletide or that Stocking stuffer thing that comes around every year?

I did check out Yuletide or something like it last year, but for some reason that I can't remember I decided against participating, but it was for a reason, I know that. I think it was because the fandom pickings were incredibly slim, and there wasn't a fandom I wanted to write for in return. I can't remember. But Yuletide also tends to be for smaller fandoms, and Merlin, I think, is just large enough not to qualify. I hope stocking stuffer happens again this year, though.

I just signed up for the art portion of the Merlin holiday exchange. Which, really, is probably for the best since this is a very slash and porn-heavy fandom. Looking through all the entries, not one entry said anything about being okay with getting gen fic. But the requests for art looked to be a little more doable.

Don't worry, there are many fests coming up that you'll be able to participate in. One of them is the glomp_fest. I don't know if you're into Merlin rpf but the mrelinrpf comm will be running another fest later this year. There's also a couple of others in the wings. This fandom always has a fest or two going on. gwaine_quest is running one too I believe. mxa_news always has notifications of fests coming up. merlinreversebb is definitely coming up for another turn... there are LOADS of opportunities to participate :)

If you're interested in multi-fandom fests, there's the bigbangindex comm, which is always full of things going on in many fandoms.

Heh, watch out when asking me for prompts. I'm an endless fountain of prompts ;)

Something I'd really like to read is a Lamia tag in which things aren't all hunky-dory in the aftermath. That is, Merlin is feeling skittish around the knights, and the knights - grumpy over having been enchanted and unaware of what had gone down while enchanted - are being huffy and short-tempered, making Merlin even more nervous until it makes him sick or causes him to have a panic attack, or maybe something else.

Something I've always wanted to read was a story that took place after some big magic reveal, in which Arthur and the others accept Merlin and his magic but other people don't, and Merlin ends up paying for it in some way (for example, he's attacked, marked for assassination, kidnapped and injured, etc).

or

Arthur returns to find that Merlin isn't doing too well. As for why Merlin isn't doing too well, I'll leave that up to you ;)

And if those don't spark the muses, how about a good old fashioned sick!fic or Merlin abused by nobles.

By the way, are you still working on that one Arthur returns fic where Arthur's on drugs and Merlin has to help him detox?

Actually I am still working on that fic! I will see what I can do with the other prompts... Stabby things are coming to mind and Arthur being all frantic to keep Merlin alive while they are somehow unable to get to help...modern fic possibly... Maybe when Arthur comes back he remembers everything and goes looking for Merlin only to realize reincarnated Mordred has beaten him to the punch and taken Merlin and there are fists and stabby bits and hmm.

Or perhaps a post-lamia fic that involves Merlin, sick and scared, taking a sword to Gwaine's throat to keep him away and Gwaine having to talk him down before he collapses or stabs someone or both?

Things are percolating. I will sit down with a cuppa and some toast this afternoon and see what occurs. ;))) thank you!!!

My problem is that I have terrible timing. Seriously, absolutely terrible. I always end up finding these comms right when it's too late to participate, and lately it seemed like all I could find were comms that were shutting down, or comms that haven't had a new round in years.

Of course a major reason for this is because I'm not part of a lot of Merlin comms - that is, comms that advertise other communities - so I tend to miss out on quite a few ads and announcements.

You will totally be my hero if you write any of these. And feel free to prompt me in return. Or maybe just cheerlead me, because I have so many unfinished stories it's not funny - like the one where insane Uther beats up Merlin because Arthur comes back injured, and another where a false Arthur comes back to an emotionally fragile Merlin and abuses him until real Arthur shows up (my word I want to finish that one, but I have no idea what should happen next). Of course first I need to finish my Merlin horror fic and dragon Big Bang fic - which I only now just started on because my muses suck :P So much I need to write! *flails*
