Color me intrigued.
I wasn't sure if I was going to give the new season a go, but then I saw the first ep and just... wow.
Now, maybe this is just me, but it always seems like every new Who needs a few episodes to really establish their personalities. David's doctor came onto the scene manic and goofy but as the eps progressed on he started coming across as more dangerous and lonely. Matt's Doctor was, for a while (and according to how I personally viewed him, MMV and all that) seemed too much like David's Doctor, but after a while came across as more whimsical and not quite in touch with reality. Peter's Doctor, however... just, wow. I mean, I know it's just the first episode but it seems to me that what we're going to get this season is a broken doctor no longer trying to hide, or unable to hide, the fact that he's broken, and I was immediately fascinated by that. I'm also getting the feeling that this Doctor Who is going to be rather dark (the dark clothes, the dark interior of the TARDIS, his rather manic confusion, as well as the rather melancholic atmosphere and music of the premiere ep. Plus that whole thing with the T-Rex and the Doctor trying to figure out why he looked so old and angry). But while I really liked how Peter's Doctor came onto the scene in such a heart-wrenching way, it remains to be seen whether or not this new Doctor ends up being as likeable as the past Doctors (I became rather iffy when he abandoned Clara, which past Doctors wouldn't have done without making some kind of a fuss or at least reassuring Clara that they'd find a way to help her, but I'd chalked that up to his confusion, and he did help her in the usual Doctor who fashion. I also get the feeling that this Doctor is going to be a lot more blunt). And whether what seems to be a darker tone remains interesting or gets <i>too</i> depressing. Either way, though, I'm now interested to see where the show will go.
