:D Isn't digital art the greatest? It's given me so much more scope for experimenting and developing new styles. And I've found that, over time, my methods have developed such that I am able to achieve more realistic styles, so it may be the same for you. Though I'm still with you - much as I'd like to do my initial sketches on the computer, they almost never seem to work out. So I'm still scanning in sketches and then painting over them.
What size is your scanner, though? And what quality do you have it set to scan at? If you can get it to scan at 600 dpi, it makes it much easier to get a high-quality image that you can scale/zoom.
