I just posted a link to Fortunate on sga_noticeboard, just to try something new. It's made me a tad nervous, I don't know why.

Thanks :). I believe SGA_Notice board and Sheppard HC pretty much have the same people as members (Sheppard fan-wise that is, not really counting McKay fans), so it'll basically be the same audience with maybe an exception or two, so I don't know why I'm nervous about having posted to Noticeboard.

Yeah. So again, can't explain why I'm nervous:/ Although, come to think of it, when I first started using LJ, I was kind of nervous about posting at Sheppard HC and SA.

I blame FF.net (Poor FF.net.) I've been getting snotty reviews from anonymous reviewers who think they know all. I know snotty reviewers are a fact of life, but they've officially made me just a tad paranoid. Although that's one thing I like about LJ - you can respond to anynmous reviews. No one can hide from responses! mwhahahahahaha! ;)

I'm both appalled and relieved. Appalled that anyone could find something snotty to say about your writing. Obviously it is someone with problems (severe ignorance, a falsely elevated sense of importance, egomaniac, maybe a little delusional, etc.). I'm a tad embarrassed to admit I'm also relieved that these things happen to a writer of your quality as well. Makes me feel a little less picked on and inferior.

What's really ashamed is that these people don't realize how much that stuff makes them look like a big, stupid jerk and just keep their nit-picking to themselves.

And after all the stuff I've posted, every new thing just about gives me a stroke. I'm terrified that either I messed it up or everyone will hate it. I guess being nervous is sort of normal (I hope).

There's always going to be someone who has something snotty to say, thinking they're being helpful. It's mostly over spelling errors and the like, and the way they point it out ("You have spelling errors, fix them" without having one good thing to say about the story.) I appreciate helpful feedback, but feedback like that isn't helpful, it's just rude.

What gets to me, though, is people who anonymously nit-pick stories by people who know how to write, who clean their work up before posting, who have their work beta'ed, etc... yet won't say a blasted thing about writers who don't have a clue and who are in dire need of beta'ing! It drives me up the wall! Which is why I haven't posted anything at FF.net for a while, because I'm sick of the crap. At LJ, it doesn't matter if someone posts anonymously, you're still able to respond and defend yourself, and I like that ;).

But posting still makes me nervous. I'm just self-conscious that way :D

So, yes, being nervous is very normal. I don't think you can really call yourself a writer if you're not nervous about putting your story where all the world can read it ;)
