Fly by post

Okay, to start off - a warning. I'm in a very foul mood for some reason, so some things I say may come off as sounding snippy and I apologize for that.

The hiatus is still on. I had thought a week would do it, but I still don't feel ready to get back into fandom. I also need to stay away from fic completely, which ended up not happening because there were still stories I needed to finish. I mostly ended up avoiding LJ, but not FF.net and it ended up being a... small distraction. Okay, a big distraction. This entire week I've had this major craving to write angst and/or dark fic. I've been whipping up ideas, have four fic partially written (and only two of them cooperating) and it made writing the next chapter of my original fic like pulling teeth.

And what the heck is going on with LJ? Where's the Rich Text formatting? I actually had a small story for you all, but couldn't post it because I don't know how to plug in HTML formatting (in that I don't know all the tags, codes, whatever you call them. My computer knowledge has limits, people.) Very irritating.

And to all those enjoying season five and who are kind enough to put up spoilers - could I beg details from you all? Not general "And here's what happened" but "Here's what happened, here's how so-and-so got whumped and where and how much blood was involved" type of details? I almost cried reading the various spoilers for The Seed. Do you know how cruel that is! Do you know how much those lack of details torment me!!!!! :(

Anyways... yeah. We'll see if this week turns out better than last, or if I have a complete mental breakdown and come crawling back to fandom.

About to go to bed so this is quick.

All you need to know are LJ cuts and how to do italics for fic. Once you learn that you're set ..plus it allows you to post up to like 14k worth of words in one shot.

Lj-cuts:

bold italics..etc ..

I can give you a few Shep!whump details, and maybe others could fill in what I miss. Okay, there are two whump moments in the show - approx. halfway through the episode, Sheppard volunteers to test Beckett's cure (the one he whipped up between commercial breaks, apparently) before anyone even tries to get it to Jennifer. Ronon volunteers first (all of SGA-1 are infected), but Sheppard says 'No, no, I'll do it.' (To clarify, this cure wouldn't take care of the physical manifestations, vines, tentacle-things, etc, just the virus causing it. Sheppard is cured because he hasn't started sprouting yet. The writers never explained why Jennifer was the only one to sprout, they blew it off as 'any of a number of physiological differences' and moved on.) Okay, after John volunteers, we cut to a close tight shot of John's feet, with someone fastening restraints, the black velcro hospital kind. Pull back, and it's Ronon and McKay! And some random nurse guy we don't know. Carson says he's anticipating a severe reaction. John worries that the reaction might involve turning him into a bug again, but Carson says, no, it could kill you. John, looking nervous and frustrated with Carson making him nervous, says 'Just give me the shot', kind of like when Ford was hesitating over stopping his heart. Carson injects John's neck with a new-looking injector system. Carson and Rodney step aside to talk about Rodney's "symptoms" (sweaty palms) and Ronon asks John how he's feeling. John says he feels the same, and doesn't even think it's doing anything - but he begins shaking, just a bit, and then seizing. We cut away to Radek and Woolsey shutting down the power in the entire city, and then back to John STILL seizing. No definite time-frame, though. Then John's heart stops, and Carson tells a nurse to bag him, and calls for a crash cart (as if one shouldn't have been standing by). Carson starts CPR immediately, and after just a few moments (before he begins rescue breathing, even, first 15 pushes) John's heart starts again, his eyes flutter open, and he mumbles 'how'd I do?' Then Ronon volunteers to take the shot to Keller, while John's still kinda out of it.

Heh-heh, thanks!

And why is every season whumpier than the last? Really, it's torture for po' folk like me ;)

Okay, almost as soon as Ronon arrives at the infected area, John seems recovered, and sits up a bit stiffly to ask Rodney what's going on. Rodney tells him, and John forces himself to his feet to take a radio from Rodney so he can listen in. Ronon runs into trouble, and we cut to Sheppard picking up another injector thing. (It's blunt, and made of a silvery metal - it looks very sturdy, and good for field work!) Rodney asks him what he's doing, and he says 'if I'm right, this is about to go very wrong'. Indeed, Ronon is snagged by the vines, and we cut to Sheppard entering the main control room. He tells them to open a channel to the room where Keller is isolated, and he talks to her for a bit. After one or two exchanges, he hands off to Carson and tells him to keep her talking. They ask where he's going, and he says 'to finish this' as he ... well, sort of bounds up the stairs, but stiffly. He takes a jumper, and flies toward the tower, only to discover that the vines have taken over almost the whole tower. He reports this, and says quietly, 'this may hurt', and flies into the side of the tower! (cue resolve!face, and shaky!camera, and even some lip biting as he gets tossed about in his seat.) John takes a gun and the medicine, one in each hand (gun in right, of course) and opens the back hatch. The vines are everywhere, almost like a jungle, but John makes it to Jennifer anyway and injects the cure into Jennifer's neck without any kind of resistance. However, Jennifer's eyes shoot open, and she gasps, and the vines start freaking out! We cut to one tightening its hold on Ronon's throat, and back to Jennifer gasping, and then a vine stabs Sheppard! In the stomach, lower-right but closer to the middle than to his side, so I wouldn't say he was stabbed in the side. Approx. two-three inches to the right of his navel, and maybe an inch above. His hand goes to the wound immediately, so it's hard to tell. He raises his gun with his other hand, and points it toward Jennifer, but she suddenly goes still and the vines sort of droop, and we see Ronon released. He lowers the gun, and Woolsey checks in. The vine is still in John, and he's kneeling, it's a tight close of waist-up, so you can't see the injury at that point, but John is gasping, and he grunts with pain at one point, and there's lots of grimacing. Oh, and some other vines were sort of slowly heading toward John, but they droop and fall away at the same time as the others. Oh, and he tells the others that they'd better 'come get us', so presumably John remains impaled on the vine until the rescue team gets there. Don't know how long that would take, since they pulled the ZPM and the physical vines were still there blocking access to the section. Unless they took another jumper and somehow piloted into the same hole John made ... Okay, on a freeze frame this looks a little more like 3-4 inches to the right, not 2-3. Hope this is enough info for a tag!

Sorry for all the issues with LG and the failed attempt to avoid fandom for a little while. Hope it gets better for ya.

So, are you just wanting to be spoiled, or do you want to actually watch the episode. Because it's on youtube. Not the best quality, but its really so much better watching it rather than being spoiled so bad. Sorry if you've already adressed this but I figured I would mention it just in case. :)

We get wonderful whump two weeks in a row. I know gut wounds squick you but in the Seed, Shep gets impaled all the way through. We even get infirmary scene afterwards. He's going to be there awhile. I know I have tags fighting it out in my head! Ronon's larynx is bruised from the tentacles strangling him. Zelenka even gets a mild concussion from one of the tentacle things tripping him. It just don't get no better than this.

JM was upset with JF going into season 5, so my theory is that JM was venting his irritation on Sheppard. Thus, if it gets picked up for another season, I'm thinking we need to get JM ticked off with JF again before he starts writing the episodes.

Wildcat gave you the actual impalement, so I didn't cap that. Here's after the magic potion has taken affect and the tendrils, including the one in him, have stopped moving:

Image

The wound appears to have moved from several inches right of his buttons to a little left of his buttons, so, as with most Shep whump, there's room for interpretation. ;)

They download really fast on iTunes with good broadband. If you have any sort of rentable broadband sources and a laptop, you might consider going to the library or a cafe or university or something to download the current season. If purchase the season in advance, they stick 'em in your box to download at your convenience.

Mmmm, probably no tags from me. Gut wounds aren't my favorite form of whump - in fact, they tend to be the only whump that squicks me, depending on where the gut wound is located.

But thanks! That is the kind of detail I'm talking about. Man I hate being a season behind and having crap-slow dial-up.

There's no way I can watch the epsiodes. I tried downlaoding a preview of an episode and it wouldn't even let me do that much, so I think seeing the episodes is out of the question. Which leaves me with spoilers to help keep my sanity ;).

:D cool.

I hope this trend continues. I'm crossing my fingers for broken ribs and X-rays (although knowing my luck when it comes to whump on shows, John'll get another gut wound and Rodney will get the broken ribs :/).

... but, seizure!whump! Something could've gone wrong! Or something. I don't really write anymore, alas. I kind of remember this story thing ...

And you're welcome! Though ... That vine doesn't appear to have perforated anything, or John would've bled out pretty quickly, and he seemed alright in the infirmary. So, possibly a non-squick gut wound? Hmm.

*sighs* I know how you feel.

I missed the whole of seasons 1 and 2, and so had to watch them all only two or three weeks before season 3 started.

Anyway, like with Doctor Who on your post labelled 'so many books, so little money' I come with links. Or, one link on this case.

http://tvliveshows.com/stargate-atlantis/

Don't worry about your internet connection, they can be pretty slow on GOOD connection too.I open them about half an hour before I will watch it, put it on pause then watch it later. Seeing as it comes in two or more parts, you'll be better having part two loading while watching part 1. Hope you're able to catch up with the seasons! They're brilliant!

Good luck!

Larissa.
