Character Backgrounds

There's an obnoxious temptation to want to give characters larger than life backgrounds. I love interesting backgrounds for my characters, but at the same time tend to be wary and hesitant when it comes to creating backgrounds. I want something interesting, but don't want a past for my character that smacks of Mary Sue. Sometimes it's hard finding the happy medium, because there's so much I want to do, but will limit myself so as not to go overboard.

I'm kind of big into setting limits. Being able to do whatever is fun, but runs the risk of making a story a lot less than it could have been. It was a lesson I learned with my book, because I was going a little overboard with certain things for the sake of pleasing myself rather than for the sake of the story, so cut back on it as much as I could during the final editing process. In the end, it wasn't even a sacrifice what with the stuff I cut out having no affect on the overall story or how I felt about the story (neither was there much to cut out).

The purple egg won't hatch! I'm starting to get concerned, so I got another egg in case purple is a lost cause. Oh, yeah, now it's hatching. Don't let anyone say that fretting gets you nowhere ;). Send 'em your love, people, send 'em your love.

OK, so do you click on the egg for a reason. I've done it and go to the cave site, but does it help it hatch? Confused?

The more clicks an egg recives, the closer it gets to hatching, growing up, etc. If uit doesn't get clicked on enough by a certain time, then the dragon dies.
