You know, it really shouldn't be this hard to come up with a short bit of self-indulgence. And, yet, it is. It really is. Every idea I've had, and every idea's that's been offered through prompts, keeps turning into something either long or complicated or just plain something I don't really want to write at the extreme moment (maybe later, but not now.) I've been plagued by the desire to write a broken Sheppard fic - one that shatters him and slowly puts him back together in a realistic way, but obviously there's no way I'm going to fit that kind of plot in only a few pages.
What I would really like to write is some short, sweet, quick H/C - preferably aftermath H/C. But, dang it, I can't come up with anything! I honestly can't! It shouldn't be this hard, dang it!
So, once again... suggestions? Something you'd like to read? A prompt? (preferably "the team comes home exhausted..." not so much, "the team is capture and must be rescued by..."). Short, sweet, H/C that I could whip up pretty quick.
(This is just for indulgence fic. Wildcat88, I do plan on writing your story.)

Date: 2008-12-04 01:38 pm (UTC)From:Indulgence fic? Since it's winter time and everyone seems snuffly, what about John with a cold/flu/upper respiratory junk? Maybe the whole team has it...
Or a nice hypothermia fic - John falls in icy water off-world or gets caught in a snowstorm. For that matter, he could get trapped in the air conditioning chiller unit on Atlantis.

Date: 2008-12-04 11:26 pm (UTC)From: (Anonymous)Or, how about a fic in which Sheppard has once again needed to climb one of the towers of Atlantis (perhaps for rescue training) except this time he doesn't exactly come away unscathed. Equipment malfunction...Rodney ranting about incompetents....
Or, how about a recovery after a fall off one of the City's piers into the ocean (stormy or calm)? That would hurt and be a bit of trouble getting back to the safety of Atlantis...ouchy, wet, cold....
Those may be tired ideas. I don't know. Just sound like fun to read. I hope you find an idea that inspires you. - Diane

Date: 2008-12-05 01:54 am (UTC)From:Baby/kid/wee John Marathon sounds like an AWESOME idea Carson is a fret-fest waiting to happen, Ronon is uber protective of John as it is, Teyla already has mommy experience......
Okay, okay I'll stop because I'm really pumping myself up and this is a great idea. (I know all of you are writing like crazy on other things - hence busy.) But this would be really cool...... *is giddy* :)

Date: 2008-12-05 04:27 am (UTC)From:Sheppard wants to get a tree, but no one will go with him. Rodney won't let go of the problems in the lab (perhaps all the issues Michael's invasion caused, or projects he's behind on like the jumper he was supposed to fix two years ago etc. Teyla maybe having problems with Torren like colic or a cold/ear infection and is tired/sleep deprived. Ronon's busy too.
All of their reasons are valid (they're not trying to be mean to John, they just don't see the point of the frivolity when everything has been so hectic)
Sooooo, John being John, goes to get one, thinking once they see the tree, they'll come around. But he doesn't come back and nobody notices at first because they've been so wrapped up in their immediate problems.
So John is whumped and alone until his team figures out what he was up to and goes looking for him. Maybe he ends up trapped under the felled tree or the landscape falls away leaving him at the bottom of a newly formed cliff....(something he can't save himself from. Not necessary for the injuries to be 'immediately' life threatening but rather incapacitating)
So his team has to rescue him & take him back. After word on John's injuries, the team puts a tree up where John can see it when he wakes up and in the process discovers what it was John was trying to do. It wasn't about the tree, it was about family, friends and spending a good time together.
*shrugs* Cheesy? Maybe. Far from original, I know. If it's been done already point me in the right direction and I'll read it.
This is something that has been bouncing around in my head and I'm no writer, so I was hoping someone would go for it.
It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day stress and our obligations that we frequently forget to take time out for what is truly important. We tell ourselves we don't need to take a moment or more likely we don't have a moment to spare.
There will always be work to do. Work will always be there. Those of importance to you, may not......

Date: 2008-12-05 08:18 pm (UTC)From:My hope is that after I finish my next original story (and maybe dabble here and there with ideas in for another fandom) - basically, take a small break - then I'll rediscover my motivation. Right now the only reason I'm trying to write anything is because I want to write and I want to whump. However, the shorter the better. Anything longer and I run the risk of losing interest.

Date: 2008-12-06 08:09 pm (UTC)From:I honestly don't think you still realize what an amazing and talented writer you are. I really hope that you do write a fic about a shattered Shep that takes time to get back together because you are without a doubt the most wonderful hurt/comfort writer I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
I hope too that your move goes smoothly. You sound like a really lovely kid and I wish you all the best.
You take care and all the best.
