kriadydragon: (Shep grrr icon)
You know, it really shouldn't be this hard to come up with a short bit of self-indulgence. And, yet, it is. It really is. Every idea I've had, and every idea's that's been offered through prompts, keeps turning into something either long or complicated or just plain something I don't really want to write at the extreme moment (maybe later, but not now.) I've been plagued by the desire to write a broken Sheppard fic - one that shatters him and slowly puts him back together in a realistic way, but obviously there's no way I'm going to fit that kind of plot in only a few pages.

What I would really like to write is some short, sweet, quick H/C - preferably aftermath H/C. But, dang it, I can't come up with anything! I honestly can't! It shouldn't be this hard, dang it!

So, once again... suggestions? Something you'd like to read? A prompt? (preferably "the team comes home exhausted..." not so much, "the team is capture and must be rescued by..."). Short, sweet, H/C that I could whip up pretty quick.

(This is just for indulgence fic. Wildcat88, I do plan on writing your story.)

Don't use if you don't want to. John hit in the head more than once in a short period of time. Other than John's POV--having more than one concussion is not a good thing.

Oh, I like that. That would make a nice little H/C fic for the sake of H/C. Must explore...

Yay! And I'm totally going to write yours as soon as I finish the 2 I'm working on. Scout's honor. Oh, well, okay, so I wasn't a scout. You know what I mean. :D

Indulgence fic? Since it's winter time and everyone seems snuffly, what about John with a cold/flu/upper respiratory junk? Maybe the whole team has it...

Or a nice hypothermia fic - John falls in icy water off-world or gets caught in a snowstorm. For that matter, he could get trapped in the air conditioning chiller unit on Atlantis.

Date: 2008-12-04 09:05 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com
Oooh I like the idea of John getting trapped in an air conditioned cooler....

Date: 2008-12-04 09:56 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Your fic is pretty much plotted, I'm still just trying to work out a few kinks. But I'm already looking forward to writing it :D

Yes! Respiratory problems. I've so been wanting to write him with respiratory problems. I honestly think it's my new favorite method of whump. Hypothermia too. Yes, I could work with these.

I second wildcat88's motion for a cold/flu fic...maybe an early-series one with Carson? *wink wink* :)

Date: 2008-12-04 09:57 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Carson's bound to make an appearence in something. I'm neither for or against Keller, I'm just used to writing Carson.

The ideas I have on my mind atm all, I suspect, have potential for huge. If I think of anything potentially short, I'll pass it on. :D

(I'd love to see Ronon go offworld with the Colonel and return with a pint-sized Johnlet who clings to him and won't trust anyone else, thus forcing Ronon to take on the roll of dad for the little one. But that's prolly not a ficlet sized idea. ;))

Date: 2008-12-04 09:59 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
*Squees!* I love that idea! Yea, I don't think it could be a ficlet, but it would work nicely as a long one-shot. The thing is, I also voulnteered to write one where it's Teyla caring for a wee!John. Hmmm... maybe I'll just to both and we can have a baby John marathon :D I've so been craving kid John fics as well.

Date: 2008-12-05 01:54 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] novembersga.livejournal.com
Yes! Please, please, please someone do this! I've been craving weeJohn as well. Ronon - John H/C friendship stories have recently topped my list of favs so it would be a two-for-one.

Baby/kid/wee John Marathon sounds like an AWESOME idea Carson is a fret-fest waiting to happen, Ronon is uber protective of John as it is, Teyla already has mommy experience......

Okay, okay I'll stop because I'm really pumping myself up and this is a great idea. (I know all of you are writing like crazy on other things - hence busy.) But this would be really cool...... *is giddy* :)

Have you considered a minor injury that just proves to make things difficult for John so he has to rely on his team a little? Maybe something as small as a sprained ankle/wrist or a broken bone or two that puts him crutches/wheel chair. Maybe he got said injury by something stupid as opposed to something heroic, and that just irks him more because someone else had to save the day because of his mistake?

Anything in there that sparks an idea you can feel free to take.

Date: 2008-12-04 10:02 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
I actually did one where he was forced to use a wheel chair because his feet were broken a while back, called Misery's Company. Rodney kept fretting over him and trying to help him and it kept freaking John out.

Maybe I could do a sequel with crutches :D

How about the aftermath of what was suppose to be a milkrun mission at the SGC during Return. It would be cool to see John interact with no-nonsense, limited ATA-experienced Dr. Lam. :)

Date: 2008-12-04 10:02 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Oh, I like that. I like Dr. Lam :D

Or John burns his cornea flying to close to the sun in Intruder and ends up spending the rest of the trip home in enforced darkness, making it a little too easy to resist to brood on things he's usually able to distract himself from?

Hmmmm....

Not a team whump fic, but: John comes back from a grueling mission exhausted/emotionally wrung out/traumatized. (To simplify things, this could be a Remnants tag. He was still visibly rattled at the end of that. There's also no way he wants to talk about how he was tortured by his own mind.) The rest of the team conspires to make sure he gets the space/time he needs.

Date: 2008-12-04 10:04 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Oh, I like that! I've actually been wanting to write a fic like that. My problem is that I tend to over think things, turning what should be short into something long or overly complicated. It's why I haven't been able to come up with a Remnants tag though I desperately want to. But your idea could work.

I have always wanted to find out what would happen if John and (insert team or team member here) were in the PJ-1 and John was electrocuted during the flight, far far from home. What would they do if PJ-1 was adrift in space without any way to contact Atlantis. John is delirious and...

Date: 2008-12-05 05:46 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
I actually have a story like that started, except john is alone, and when he gets rescued still remains trapped in the puddlejumper. Someday I plan on finishing it. Just not right now.

I can be bribed. What do you want?

Date: 2008-12-05 08:18 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
It's not what I want, it's what I need, and that's motivation. Motivation's been a little hard to come by for me, lately. I think the problem is (loathe that I am admit it) is that I'm a tad jaded toward writing SGA fic. It's not that I don't want - because I do - but even when it's a story I really want to write, most of the time my heart's just not in it. I've written so much SGA, I've kind of worn myself out and put myself in the mood to write other things.

My hope is that after I finish my next original story (and maybe dabble here and there with ideas in for another fandom) - basically, take a small break - then I'll rediscover my motivation. Right now the only reason I'm trying to write anything is because I want to write and I want to whump. However, the shorter the better. Anything longer and I run the risk of losing interest.

H/C ideas?

Date: 2008-12-04 11:26 pm (UTC)From: (Anonymous)
I'm buzzing around and haven't read all the comments...has anyone suggested an aftermath H/C fic involving John and Ronon's camping trip we never got to see in Brainstorm? Maybe Sheppard takes a fall into a gully or is hanging off a cliff...and Ronon or both of them have to rescue themselves and get back to the gate for medical attention. That may be more involved than you're looking to tackle, but it'd be nice. Their relaxing little camping trip turns achingly disastrous...I can just picture the shocked faces of the gateroom 'graveyard shift' techs when the pair arrives back in Atlantis all torn up and bloody and barely standing.

Or, how about a fic in which Sheppard has once again needed to climb one of the towers of Atlantis (perhaps for rescue training) except this time he doesn't exactly come away unscathed. Equipment malfunction...Rodney ranting about incompetents....

Or, how about a recovery after a fall off one of the City's piers into the ocean (stormy or calm)? That would hurt and be a bit of trouble getting back to the safety of Atlantis...ouchy, wet, cold....

Those may be tired ideas. I don't know. Just sound like fun to read. I hope you find an idea that inspires you. - Diane

I'm actually surprised no one's done a whumpy Brainstorm tag with John and Ronon camping yet, even though everyone's asking for them :/ So far all I've seen are a het and a slash tag. Whumpy, tags, it seems, are in very short supply this year. I myself am not a big tag writer, but I really like your idea. So we'll see...

I really like the idea of him falling into the ocean. i could totally use that.

It being the holidays I was thinking maybe after all the misery they've been through recently, John tries to cheer up his team by getting them into the Christmas spirit. Only, they don't go for it.

Sheppard wants to get a tree, but no one will go with him. Rodney won't let go of the problems in the lab (perhaps all the issues Michael's invasion caused, or projects he's behind on like the jumper he was supposed to fix two years ago etc. Teyla maybe having problems with Torren like colic or a cold/ear infection and is tired/sleep deprived. Ronon's busy too.

All of their reasons are valid (they're not trying to be mean to John, they just don't see the point of the frivolity when everything has been so hectic)

Sooooo, John being John, goes to get one, thinking once they see the tree, they'll come around. But he doesn't come back and nobody notices at first because they've been so wrapped up in their immediate problems.

So John is whumped and alone until his team figures out what he was up to and goes looking for him. Maybe he ends up trapped under the felled tree or the landscape falls away leaving him at the bottom of a newly formed cliff....(something he can't save himself from. Not necessary for the injuries to be 'immediately' life threatening but rather incapacitating)

So his team has to rescue him & take him back. After word on John's injuries, the team puts a tree up where John can see it when he wakes up and in the process discovers what it was John was trying to do. It wasn't about the tree, it was about family, friends and spending a good time together.

*shrugs* Cheesy? Maybe. Far from original, I know. If it's been done already point me in the right direction and I'll read it.

This is something that has been bouncing around in my head and I'm no writer, so I was hoping someone would go for it.

It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day stress and our obligations that we frequently forget to take time out for what is truly important. We tell ourselves we don't need to take a moment or more likely we don't have a moment to spare.

There will always be work to do. Work will always be there. Those of importance to you, may not......

Remember when Rodney would whine all the time on missions and John would just ignore him? Has anyone written anything where John and Keller are on a mission? She whines just like Rodney. She would be whining not realizing John is hurt (because John does not Whine, he is always "good") until he collapses and then she needs to suck it up and deal. I don't really like Keller but I have noticed that TPTB do not put them together very often

A Keller-John friendship fic would be interesting, but I'm not quite used to her character, yet, so it may take a while (I'm still a season behind, and haven't really watched Trio yet since there isn't a lot of John. What can I say, I'm shallow :D)

I feel for you

Firstly so sorry about your cat, I lost mine last month she was named summer and was 16 and came in one morning crying and was in obvious pain. We took her to our vet and he said her kidney's were packing up. we all cryed like babies so I know how distreesing it is.
I honestly don't think you still realize what an amazing and talented writer you are. I really hope that you do write a fic about a shattered Shep that takes time to get back together because you are without a doubt the most wonderful hurt/comfort writer I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
I hope too that your move goes smoothly. You sound like a really lovely kid and I wish you all the best.
You take care and all the best.

Thank you :D (and sorry about you kitty as well. It sucks so bad to lose a pet... though I will admit that I won't be too upset if we lost one of the dogs. I'm not a dog fan, and most of our dogs annoy the snot out of me :P).

Breaking sheppard is hard, especially since most of the methods have already been done. It's why I haven't found a plot I like, yet :/
