kriadydragon: (Reaper thinking)
Okay, lately I've been seriously thinking about starting some kind of community, either for CSI:NY or something for Stargate Atlantis, or both, for canon-type stories only. Stories that are not slash, romance, or AUs of any kind, not even alternate ending stories (though I do love those.)

And before anyone says anything - no, I am not considering this because I ran into another slash story. I believe this came about after someone mentioned in a meme or discussion or something how they only read canon stories - basically stories that could be an episode or at least stick pretty close to the show. SGA offers so many possibilities that it gets hard to find stories that can be defined as canon, and I know I've been in canon-story moods myself off and on.

For CSI:NY it's because the fandom has become overrun by so many shippers. But, also for that reason, I don't know if a canon-only site would take. The shipeprs would probably shun it.

I'm not an assertive person by nature and I normally don't do stuff like this, but I thought it might be fun, provide another place to put stories as well as help readers sift through the myriad of genres for a particular genre. What do you all think? Would a community like that be fun? would it even take? Or does a community like that already exist? There's already so many SGA communities, would one more be too many? I've also been considering making it a combo site for SG-1 and SGA stuff.

It's nothing definite, just something I've been mulling over. I would need help with it, of course, if I decide to go with it. I make no promises, though. There's already so many communities and sites, and I don't know how well a canon-only community would take.

I need some serious feedback on this, people.

Also, on a technical note, does one need highspeed to run a community? Dial-up is crap but it's all I've got.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to put a community together even if it didn't take.

What's your community called? I've probably come across it but I tend to be a bit oblivious about things.

It functions mostly as a challenge community, but posted stories aren't required to be challenge responses. I'd hoped the challenges would drum up some authors who would then post other stuff, but that hasn't really happened.

I like that community. It's the only one I go to where I feel safe in terms of not running into anything I'll regret reading.

What do you mean by other stuff? Stories not inspired by a challenge? Maybe I'll join. I have a lot of free time right now and I've been writing like crazy, but I don't want to post everything at FF.Net since they sometimes annoy me, and I don't want to post on my LJ since I set it up for an original fic (which I really need to get back to writing.)

Plus I like supporting Gen only sites as there are so few of them.

Thanks! I'm very glad to hear that it's a safe place to read. That's what I was hoping for when I created the community. :D

Yup, I mean stories that are not inspired by a challenge. I think the impression people have gotten is that they can only post challenge responses there, but SA welcome all gen SGA stories.
