First off, a big Happy New Year to everyone and hope this new year is nothing but positive for everyone.

I usually don't do the New Years resolution thing since I'm not a fan of the concept. I'm not going to wait until a new year just to change my life when I can do it at any time (and usually do). However, I seem to have made an involuntary one. I know I've said more than once that I'm going to spend less time on the Internet, but since the move I've been putting that promise into practice. Now that we have cable, I started my next story and already enjoy writing every minute of it, and rediscovered my love of reading actual books (I have several I'd promised myself that I would finish reading), my attentions are all over the place and some days I don't want to get on the internet at all.

Which reminds me, I plan on doing some splurging on books and I'd like to get one of the SGA novels. I already read The Chosen and Reliquary, so I'd like some opinions on which book I should get next. Which, in your opinion, has a good story and good (Shep) whump?

My last novel - the one I ended up being disappointed in - I've started to replot, which is a releif. I was worried I'd lost all interest in that story.

I've come to realize that when writing an SGA story, I don't like writing a story where I focus on only three of the team, leaving one team member out ( out of the story entirely or out of being whumped). I've done it, but felt uncomfortable about it. I can focus on one team member (*cough*Sheppard!*cough*), or two, or all four, but not three. I feel it unfair to the fans of the character I have to leave out, especially since it's a frustration for myself when a writer focuses on three of the team members but leaves one member out in some way.

Finally, a book recommendation: Plucker, by Brom - an evil spirit attempts to steal a boy's soul through his toys, and a rejected jack-in-the-box must save him. Warnings: violence against toys, dark themes, swearing. This is a dark fairytale (very dark) and an illustrated book. The paintings are awesome, if a little disturbing, and the story fascinating. I especially loved the character of Mabelle the house keeper - a good Christian woman who also knows how to weave a good spell. My only problem with the book was the way the author seemed to push for the story to have an attitude - the way he described action scenes and the dialogue. I'm not a fan of heavy swearing, but my dislike for the language for this book was more that it felt out of place, and I dislike more when an author relies on using lots of foul language, raunchy situations or crude humor to give a story a darker, more serated edge: because even I must admit that there are times when foul language works, but there are also times it doesn't. But that was just me, and may not seem out of place to other readers.

And that is all.

I preferred Reliquary. In fact, Reliquary is the only one I've really loved. (I haven't read Mirror, Mirror, yet.)

I loved Mirror, Mirror. I think it's the best SGA novel I've read by far.

Happy New Year! I'm a big fan of Mirror, Mirror - lots of good whump for many characters in that one, and an interesting concept to boot. Enjoy reading! I love books... :)
