I'm turning it off. No more anonymous reviews for my stories on FF.net. I hate not being able to respond.

I mean, not that it really matters since I barely post there. I'm just being vindicitive, as well as attempting to spare myself from further annoyance.

Yeah I hear you. I've had this debate, often deleting those who was so disrespectful and hiding behind the anonymous shield.

The only thing that's kept me was a person reminded me that if you're not a writer, there's no real reason for a pure reader to create an account, but the headaches and piss and vinegar of those who are plain rude has tempted me so many times.

I may follow your lead soon. It is just pure frustration.

I do feel bad about it since the majority of anonymous reviews sometime seems equal to non-anonymous. The frustrating part, though, isn't so much the review itself, but being unable to respond. I like being able to discuss things with people - see where they're coming from as well as letting them in on where I'm coming from. Then there are those reviewers who are so far off the mark that an explanation (or, more accurately "correction") is practically mandetory.

I just don't want to put up with it any more. My life is full of enough trivial frustrations as is. I also think it inevtiable as a lot of long-time fanfic writers who used to allow for anonymous reviews have disabled it.

I agree. I like to discuss things, too with readers. It's helpful to interact with people. Sometimes they bring up a good point, sometimes they've got it all wrong and you should want to have cordial discussion. For me it's half the fun of fandom! Good conversations.

That's why i prefer LJ for posting fic and one day..ONE. I'll leave ff.net altogether.

*Nods* Exactly. The only reason I still post in FF.net on occasion is because of a few readers who aren't part of the LJ crowd. So I'l probably continue to post there if the mood strikes, but it's going to be a rare thing.

I've never been able to get an account at FF.net (I've tried twice to develop an account there and had nothing but problems - and still no account). So, I've never posted a story there. After the last year, there have been so much crap posted there I barely read anything posted at FF.net.

There are so many posters there now that don't allow anonymous reviews (I've never flamed anyone) that I don't leave feedback anymore.

I'd say right now, I consider FF.net to have 90% crap posted there. There are really very few authors I like there (You, Kodiak, Rhymer and Kristen999 are the only ones and you all have LJ accounts).

FF.Net is going downhill in a bad way. Of the good authors that post there who do not (and I emphasize "do not") have an LJ account, there are about three whose stories catch my interest and hold it. But their updates tend to be few and far between (once a week, if lucky.)

It's seems as though the majority of the fics posted are juvenile Mary Sue fics, John/Liz fics or McShep. I can't stand any of those. I just can't stomach them.

I love the fics that give me that thrill ride adventure. You know the ones, the ones that make me yell, "WOO HOO!!" from in front of my computer! The authors I mentioned do that.

I got a fanfiction.net account so I was able to leave comments on stories. I haven't been brave enough to post any of my own stories yet, but if I had something to say, I would make sure the author knew who was saying it.

It's not just knowing who's saying what but also being able to respond. It's frustrating to get nit-picking reviews that are nit-picking things that aren't mistakes but are there for a reason. IT's why I like LJ better, because anonymous reviewers here aren't safe from author responses;)

I turned off the anonymous reviews after a particularly nasty round with a VERY rude person who twisted what I did and left me no way to respond or explain what was going on. After a few days of stroke-level high blood pressure every time I thought about it, I followed someone's suggestion and turned them off.

I agree that most of the stuff on FFnet is junk these days, but every once in a while I find a good one that's not on LJ. And a LOT of my old favorites are posted there.

That's why I still lurk, because every so often a gem does pop up. The only problem is that half the time, many of them never get finished! It drives me crazy.

Yeah, I have to admit that the never-getting-finished thing drives me NUTS sometimes.

The worst is when the story has this totally awesome concept you would love to see played out, but the author won't/can't finish the story and when you try to tackle the same concept yourself, all you come up with are stories too similar to story that spawned said concept.

LOL - pretty sure I've been there, might even have the t-shirt.

They shouldn't be allowed to post anonymously, they should be forced to sign in and leave a name!
