See I'm a one fandom type of girl. A part of me wants to see a well done fic that deals with Dean and Sam and the 'deal' and fallout from this season, in particular how Castiel fits in his sympathies towards Dean in a GEN way--yet I'm fearful that nothing has been written or it's been written badly or in a slash way--which is what I Don't want to read.
That's always been my biggest frustration with fanfic. So many potential fic either not being written, being poorly written, or that end up involving pairings. I was among the many who wanted a Brain Storm/camping tag with Sheppard/Ronon friendship, but all I could find was a short little peice teetering on being slashy. And, of course, slash :/. It surprised me as I thought for sure a lot of whumpers would jump on such an idea.
As with most fandoms, the early days of SPN fic were the best. Problem was, there were so many authors and so many updates, I ended up losing half the stories I was reading and never found them again. So, I stopped reading SPN. These days it seems like Wincest and Dean/Castiel are the dominant genre, or so I've heard. I'd had plans of writing an SPN story for my sister. I had ideas, just never the motivation to write.
