It seems like the SGA fandom of FF.net is going the way of the CSI:New York fandom - to romance. Mostly het, with a little slash here and there. And even those stories not labeled as het still manage to slip a little romance in.

Nothing against romance, but when it's not your thing it's frustrating. I know that fandom is quieting down now that the show is over, and that people are wandering off to other fandoms, but it still boggles me the way a genre seems to take over a fandom (like in Supernatural, a show still going but, from what I heard, completely overrun by wincest fic... but that's just what I've heard.) It's not like SGA isn't getting any new writers at all - I'm always seeing new names over on FF.net. Yet the fandom has gone from being fairly diverse to genre-specific.

I miss the diverse days :(

It totally boggles me how a fandom loses its diversity. I remember in the SPN fandom there were so many good fic coming out just about every day that I couldn't keep up with them (which is why I stopped reading - there was too much to read ;)).

SGA fandom I used to spend an entire day reading. I also used to give new authors a chance. Now, every time I read something by a new author, it gets my hackles raised :P

honestly some of me wonders....
people complain that there is slash
then the slash people scream that they are being suppressed....
soon any time there is a fic that isn't slash its seen as offense.
then there is nothing but sex fics...

i have no facts for this ..its only a theory

Yeah, that does seem to be the trend. Slash didn't really bother me all that much until it was all I was coming across in my search for hidden gems. Slash isn't the problem and het isn't the problem - it's the lack of variety that's the problem.

couldn't agree more.

*nods* I've noticed that with every fandom I've checked out at FF lately. *sigh*

I've noticed het is trying to sneak into the Thoughtcrimes fandom. I try to be open-minded but when more het fic started popping up, it annoyed the crap out of me, because I could just see het taking over as it had with so many other fandoms.

I miss good old Action/Adventure with maybe a little bit of tryst if your lucky..

Slash is okay within reason its like eating cheesecake, a small slice every now and then is okay the whole cake on the other hand makes you very ill.

sometimes less is so much more:)

"sometimes less is so much more:)"

Very true. It's just so in-our-faces these days - not just fic but in memes, story reviews, and so on. Just now I received a review for a story where someone talked about slashing Sheppard and an OC I created (not asking if they could, just to point out how much they liked my OC.

I'm flattered, but at the same time I have no idea how to respond to that. I'm not a fan of pairings, and if they are asking in a subtle manner if they can slash those two characters... well, what do I say? I'm so annoyed with the prevalence of pairing fic that the very idea of saying "Okay, you can slash them!" is making me feel a tad ill.

The only reason I check out Ff.net these days is for the few WIPs that are taking their sweet time about being written (updates are about once a month, sometimes twice or three times if lucky.)

I miss the good old days :(

*Cracks whip* Now write your Big Bang! *cracks whip twice*

I can't comment on FF.net (I still post there but haven't followed new stories in a while). But if you want a host of new gen fics, have you checked out the latest Last Fic Writer Standing challenge? The Round 1 fics are up and the Round 2 prompt has just gone out to the writers. All gen, a mix of HC and other genres. There should be about a dozen rounds or so coming up.

The Round 1 fics are here: http://community.livejournal.com/sga_lfws/39729.html#cutid1

The comm's main page is here: http://community.livejournal.com/sga_lfws/

This is the third LFWS. You should be able find the earlier LFWS challenges (with ALL the fics... some of them amazing) on that main comm page.

Maybe that'll help? *is hopeful*

There's little on ff.net that I really want to read. I hate McShep and not into het (except John/Teyla). I adore Sheppard centered hurt/comfort. That's where I get my thrills... ;)

Gen Sheppard H/C is practically non-existent on FF.net these days. And the few that I come across end up squeezing in het later on without warning. I only go back to see if a few of the WIPs I'm reading have been updated, but the writers take forever to update.

I thin we're all on the same page here. I just don't bother with FF.net anymore. Even Twisting The Hellmouth is a lot of slash or het. I'm just not interested.
