I just finished edit one of my original fic, and hope to start edit two sometime after New Year. I can honestly say that I'm pretty happy with this story and am looking forward to getting book two and three done - which is a relief, since I was kind of worried I would lose interest.

Now I can turn my attention back to writing some SGA. I finally have two ideas that I actually want to write - one still being outlined and another I hope to start either this week or next. I also hope to get an original short story I started done.

That's awesome! My goal for next spring is to finally edit/rework/fix the novel I wrote like 2 1/2 years ago for NaNoWriMo. I've tried two or three times and I just read the first chapter, make note of a bunch of stuff that needs to be fixed, go blank on how to do that, and put it back up. I think editing is so hard, especially when you have major things that need fixing. I even bought a book with tips on editing your manuscript because I have such a hard time with it. So my hat's off to you for your success.

And I'm glad to hear there are some more SGA stories in the works for us addicts.

Thanks :D

Heh, I've come to love editing ;) I actually find the writing process harder, because I always want to fix everything while I'm writing. But this was only the first edit, which was to clean it up and fix what I knew immediately how to fix. The next edit will probably be more difficult, because I'm basically going to nit-pick each chapter down to word choicing.

I think the trick to editing is to work your way up. Read all the way through your story, fix what you can and don't worry about what you can't or don't know how to fix. Set the story aside for a while, then go back and read it again. Then set it aside again, read it again, etc. At some point in time, have someone else read it (more than one person if possible). It may take a while before the story really starts coming together. I've read of authors who have edited, even rewritten, their stories twenty times or more before they were finally happy with it.

I hope I'm able to whip up some SGA. I've been having trouble getting anything done, but I think that was mostly due to my attentions being divided.
