I hate the weather in Kansas, I really do. Wednesday we were supposed to get snow, so of course I can't help getting all excited about it because we probably get snow maybe once or twice a year, if lucky (yes, lucky). Now I'm hearing that it's going to be in either the forties or fifties (Farenheit) with thunderstorms! In December! Now I know you're all probably wondering why I'm complaining, because no snow means no ice, no bitter cold, no slipping, etc. But, like I said, we probably only get snow maybe once or twice a year. For us, getting snow when we're supposed to get snow is like getting fresh baked cookies.

But when do we usually end up finally getting snow? In April, usually after a week when the temperatures were in the sixties and seventies and the trees were starting to bloom. Then here comes Mother Nature crying out "suckers!" and dumps the biggest snow storm we've ever seen on us.

Plus, dang it, selfish, picky person that I am, I would really like to get snow in December. Preferably before Christmas.

Yeah, I know in some places they don't even get snow. For me, though, it isn't so much about the snow as about how weird the weather is, how up north it's blizzards yet around here you'd think we were heading into spring. Screwy weather also has a way of screwing with you emotionally, and getting one's hopes up about possible snow so close to Christmas doesn't help.

*Shakes fist at sky* Snow, darn you, snow!

You can have our snow if you'll pay the shipping charges. We've probably still got 6 inches or so on the ground from last week's storm and another batch is coming Thursday, after about 24 hours of freezing rain, so...would you like it shipped UPS or FedEx? It shouldn't cost too much considering it's only coming from Nebraska. ;)

It's tempting ;)

Of course, now that I've complained, not only will we get snow, but an ice storm to boot, probably. Or tornadoes, just for an extra dose of irony :P

I am ~~~thankful~~~ it is 40 here because last year this time it just kept coming down and coming down and coming down until I had three and four foot drifts in my courtyard. Blocking my garage door was a huge drift so even had my car had traction devices on it, I would have had a lot of digging to get out just into the street.......
We had Christmas last year on New Years Day........
BUT if you want snow, I guess I should just shut up and wish you a
W-H-I-T-E Christmas
:-)

Heck, yes, I want snow :D But for us it's definitely the lesser evil in terms of weather. It never really reaches so much as a foot, and as long as it doesn't rain first then freeze, then it's easy to get around.

***keeps fingers crossed for White Christmas in Kansas***

I completely understand the need for a little snow... during the right time of year. Ask me sometime about the ice storm the night before my sister's wedding - no electricity, which meant no organ/bells/heating in the church, and one of the maids-of-honor couldn't get out of her driveway; let's not even talk about the reception - after a week where we were running around in shorts and flip-flops! Unfortunately, I now live in an area where we get 1/2 inch of snow (every 3rd or 4th year) and every goes bats**t insane.

I join you in your fist shaking. I'd sacrifice tiny bugs for a white Christmas.

I swear weather is purposefully inconvenient :P

"Unfortunately, I now live in an area where we get 1/2 inch of snow (every 3rd or 4th year) and every goes bats**t insane."

Hee-hee! When I lived in San Antonio, the whole city would shut down just because of a few patches of ice :D when we lived in Maine, the only time we'd have a day off is if the school buses couldn't be dug out of the snow ;)

Ha! Here in Atlanta they will close schools if the rumor of 1/2 inch of snow is reliable enough. And this starts the panicked Bread, Milk and Toilet Paper buying, too. OH! and batteries, too.

We got 26" and I wish I could send some of it your way. I don't mind a little snow, but that storm we got was way too much.

I kind of miss snow storms (except when the electricity goes out, of course). It's rather frustrating that there's all these snow storms going on in so many places, and we're still getting rain :P

We're supposed to get rain on Christmas Eve. That should make for a nice mess. We usually get our storms in Jan. and Feb. and have been getting rain most other times or we would have been way buried with snow, instead we get it all in one storm and still have a few months more to go. It took my dad 2 days to dig us out.

Wow. The weather really is mean :/

We just had rain, so....

We'll probably have overcast or fog....

Yea...

I'd love snow...

Snow is fun, rain is sludge. I want snow! (But now I'm nervous that, with all this complaining I'm doing, we'll get snow, and I'll end up regretting having wished for it :P)

Time to whip out the prayers again...

What I mean is: I usually pray each night and now I have to add these (yours and mine) to the list of things to pray about...

Date: 2009-12-23 06:52 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Eh, snow isn't anything to pray for. Unless it includes an ice storm that knocks out the power, then we can talk praying :P

*g*

No, I meant prayers that nothing bad will happen...

No one really prays for snow, do they? (said by someone who lives where it RARELY snows)

I don't know. I've heard of people praying for some really strange things. And I wouldn't be surprised if some kid out there is praying for snow so they don't have to go to school ;)
