I feel the need to apologize that my last post came off as me telling people how to write. If there's one thing that makes me squirm, it when what I say feels like me telling people how to write. I was frustrated at the time, so jumped into writing without really seeing what I wrote.

That said, I still stand by the basic idea, and what I said in various replies. I feel that certain forms of whump - such as getting hit in the groin and spanked - have been incredibly tainted by media. It's not that people find it funny, it's just that's where you expect to find those certain types of whump: in funny situations. It's for that reason that I, myself, personally, find it odd when said forms of whump are used seriously, since a part of my mind has been conditioned to expect them to be used in anything but a serious situation. Also, because of the way it is written (usually lacking in details, maybe overdone or underdone) I keep expecting humor to be injected into the situation, and find it odd when it doesn't happen.

Again, it's not because I find it funny or think it should be written as funny. It's because my mind has been conditioned to expect it to crop up only in funny situations.

I stand by "think before you whump" and to not use a particular whump method unless you have thought it through. This goes for any kind of whump, whether it be spankings or vivisection. I think we've all, at one point in time, jumped into whump without really thinking about it, thus writing it in a way that wasn't accurate, or so over-the-top or under-estimated that it was hard to buy.

So the real message of the last post wasn't meant to be "write like this!" The real message was meant to get people thinking, and again I apologize that it sounded like me being bossy and know-it-all :/. I advise anyone who reads the previous post to also read the responses, as they basically go into what I had been trying to say.
