kriadydragon: (Shep 2)
For those still following SGA whenever SyFy feels kind enough to air it, First Strike was on today. Not a super uber favorite of mine (Everyone's whumped but Shep *pouts*) But, be that as it may, we still have super pilot John flying a city. And John and Rodney, team brainiac! So smart and so in sync they leave even poor Zelenka in the dust :D And John coming up with the meteor to slow the beam down long enough to get the city off the planet.

This... this is what I love about SGA besides the teamy goodness. That the hero was a geek, the hero has brains, the hero uses those brains just as much if not more than his brawn. This is why I say, yes, yes, and five times the yes to those who love math!Sheppard and I will forever support math!Sheppard, and why I bristle something fierce when someone tries to paint Sheppard as a bumbling idiot whose every plan is nothing but a screw up (because, yes, [sarcasm]the meteor blocking the laser long enough to get the city out was such a horrible, horrible idea [end sarcasm] :P)

I miss my show.

"........paint Sheppard as a bumbling idiot whose every plan is nothing but a screw up...."

***nods***
They had better careful when they speak in a derogatory manner of Sheppard......Ronon doesn't take it lightly
:-D

I miss my show.

I miss your show too

I realize I replied in a sort of tongue in cheek but I think you know
how annoyed I am when they see him as somehow just not as intelligent as
McKay........the difference is he does not broadcast it.
As I said before, the military does not hire dummies to fly their MULTI
million dollar jets etc.
Even if they managed to get through flight school, which is a real chore
in academics and functional training, he would never last in the fleet, whatever the AF calls their operations
I think some do not understand what it all means and it is one reason why
I no longer reply to their posts where it is obvious that they might just be a McKay fan and not interested in the details of it all.

Amen! Hate seeing Sheppard portrayed as a bumbling idiot. :( Though I don't like it taken to far the other way either. Sheppard is pretty damned smart, but McKay is a genius. ;)

As for First Strike, there were a lot of things in it I liked, some I didn't.

I still get a little tingle when I hear Sheppard refer to the city as the "old girl"

"Old girl too banged up?" *shiver* I love that!! There's something about it.. dunno.. but I love that! LOL

I definitely don't buy into "Sheppard the closet genius" but the man is smart and I hate it when people try to argue otherwise (all the anti-matthing Sheppard stuff is still driving me crazy. I understand if it's a matter of someone writing Sheppard as a closet genius but I also see stories attacked where he's merely fairly good at math).

Hee! :D Sheppard and his city.

oh yes, Shep and his city... I love the little terms of endearment. ;) Pilots... gotta love 'em ;)

and yeah.... have seen stories attacked because Sheppard showed some competency at math. My thought is umm... yeah... Sheppard being pretty competent at math is canon. ;) (C'mon! that was a pretty quick calculation in his head in Rising!)

There's been many instances in the show where Sheppard was able to calculate things and understand Rodney's plan (when he wanted to or before it got into too much techno babble). If you look at some of Sheppard's plans, including the one from "The Lost Tribe" two partner, he can think fast on his feet.

One of my military 'advisers' always reminds me when I'm writing Sheppard that at his rank and the types of aircraft he's flown, many career pilots have at least a Maser's Degree. (Which I'm finally going to be able to use in my Help-Haiti fic. \o/

I love what he did in The Lost Tribe :D That was so awesome, especially after Rodney's snide remark about him and Mensa.

I definitely don't buy into "Sheppard the closet genius"

Exactly, but one does not have to be a closet genius to have intellect.
There is some trade off here..........
I think as I said earlier, some mistake his quiet dedication as some sign he is not as intelligent. I guess it takes McKay braying about his degrees for
some to believe in his intellect.
I don't buy it.
My father was gifted intellectually, but you would never have known it by his demeanor.

Totally. Ditto!!! *votes Shep for math smarts*
