I really, really, really wish TV shows would just stay the heck away from religion. A show deals with religion and the vast majority of the time religious people are either fanatics, idiots or jerks. It ticks me off like nothing else.

But, then, really, when does the media not tick me off? *head desk*

The media is an idiot, it really is. Words cannot adequately describe their idiocy.

i am so sick of the sensationalizing of everything

I'm sick of them skewing everything. My mom was watching a movie a couple of hours ago that dealt with our religion and I really wished she hadn't as it was beyond offensive.

yeah i know what you mean
i am religious but people assume that being christian
means you are an extremist.

I liked Supernatural until about season 4. That's when it got way too Christian. I liked the broad distribution of bad guy origins, but then when the supernatural good guys showed up (for a decidedly mixed value of good, but whatever) they were all angels, with a very Christian slant to them.

I drifted off eventually because I don't like the Christian-centric subtext.

What SPN did was... really weird, and kept getting weirder. As a Christian, though certain aspects annoyed me, it was actually hard to be offended because it was all so skewed, practically made up. Really the only aspects I would call even remotely Christian/Biblical are the angels' names. Everything else... um... no.

agreed

That it was such a fictionalized version really didn't help me.

Also, we only ever saw demons get exorcised in nomine patris, et filii, et spiritus sancti. Which sounds pretty explicitly Christian to me, no matter how much else is made up. Combined with the angels, and with demons and other Christian villains (again, however warped) going from a major threat to almost the only threat, it became impossible to ignore. I would have loved to see a minor character hunter deal with demons with rituals and/or the sacred symbols or objects of some other religion, but I guess Kripke just isn't that imaginative.

That is the purpose, to confuse and discredit...........and I think it is deliberate, not some fluke a writer dreamed up.

They have a personal agenda to grind........
If you do not go along with PC,
or whatever the liberal media dishes out, you are a nutcase, a fanatic,
a rabid whatever.
They see EVERYTHING in black and white.
I am really sick of it.
Last night they did a story on cable news on the PC patrol.
They are going through whatever they can get their hands on to
change all the terms and wording so nobody is offended
Who are these people?
***steps down from her soapbox***
They are self appointed.

Oh, I don't deny that. There's a very big double-standard going on, and I hate double standards. Television tries to push for a "be nice to everyone" and "let everyone do whatever they want" image but heaven forbid if you're religious or a virgin (to name a few issues). You'd think the media was still in highschool :/

Their patronizing attitude and the arrogance they display is insulting to me.........

It's hard not to get ticked off from most stuff in media as there's too much collusion, too little fact checking, too much speculation, etc. and then TV shows, well, sure don't use them as anything factual! Yeah, religion is black & white, either/or, and always the extremes, well, 9 times out of 10.
