kriadydragon: (Reaper thinking)
A while ago I mentioned starting some kind of a canon community for SGA. The reason I haven't is because there are already so many communities and I didn't want to go stepping on anyone's toes. But I really like the idea of a community that makes it easier to find stories that are, or as close to, canon as possible since many have expressed the occasional desire to read a canon-like fic once and a while.

I'm thinking of doing it as strictly an archive site for people to post stories, links to stories, or recommend other people's stories, whether new or old or posted elsewhere, that can be considered as canon stories. No challenges or any such as. It'll be strictly a place people can go if they are in the mood for more canon-like stories without having to wade through all the other genres.

I'm also thinking about making it both an SG-1 and SGA site.

What does everyone think? That sound good?

Sounds good to me.

That sounds pretty spiffy - as fun as AUs and such can be, it gets irritating after a while having to wade through them to find something a little less cracked-out. With characters that are recognizable as themselves.

What sort of guidelines were you thinking of? Or hadn't you got that far? If you're looking for someone to help run it, I'd be glad to volunteer. Although my knowledge of canon for both is a bit spotty, given that I haven't seen seasons 8 and 9 of SG-1 or season 1 of SGA.

Basically, the guildines would be no slash, romance, AUs (unless they begin and end at canon) and nothing NC-17. Cannon pairings (like Rodney and Katie Brown) are fine so long as the pairings are not the central plot of the story.

I also want a rule that doesn't allow OC centered stories where the main characters are shoved into the background. Where it's all about the OC and not the actual characters. OC stories where the OC is being used as an outisde observer of the main characters, however, are fine. But it's going to be a tricky rule to explain, one I think many might try to use as a loophole.

And I'd love the help. You don't have to know too much about canon. Just go by the guildines which I will flesh out more. It's more about what's not in the story than what is (slash, romance, etc.)

As soone as I have it set up I'll announce it in my next journal entry. Thanks for offering to help.

So, AUs are confined pretty much to quantum mirror/interdimensional bridge/time travel, examples of which we've seen on the show. And no crossovers, I'm assuming?

With the OCs, I'd say explain it pretty much as you just did, and add something about the mods being able to warn/remove at their discretion. And point out that there are plenty of other communities willing to accept such fics.

Do you want to try for any quality guidelines? It would have to be fairly innocuous stuff, like no paragraph separation or horrendous misspellings. Although that might be a dangerous path to start down....

Crossovers! That's the other no-no unless it's SG-1 crossed with SGA and vice versa. Yeah, quantum mirros/time-travel only and as long as everything returns to normal.

With quality control I would ask that people either have a story beta'd or at least go over it more than once before posting. If English is not their first language then they need to have the story beta'd by someone good with English. I wouldn't scrap a story if it's hard to read due to grammaer, spelling, or structure errors but I would ask that the author have it cleaned up.

I'm also thinking about having a kind of deadline for WIPs. If a work in progress hasn't been updated for a year, then the story will be removed. Mostly to motivate people to either keep writing or to hold off a little before posting a WIP. Too many scrap works in progress too easy.

I think it's a good idea. Sometimes you just want a good "true" story. The other ones are fun and have their purpose, but they muddy the waters.

I don't write, but I read everything I would love to have a site that like.

Hope it works.

Ok, you can see why I don't write.!!

I would love to have a site like that. (much better).

I think that sounds like a great idea.
