It's been raining, and when it rains there's a chance the Internet gets screwed up. Why? I don't know, that's just the way it is. But today, instead of the Internet, it's the phones going buggy, with the Internet working just fine. This is odd, because usually, when the phones don't work, the Internet doesn't work. The phone keeps flashing "in use" and when I pick it up, I hear absolutely nothing. But the Internet is running like nothing's happened. Man, I hope no one needed to call for any emergency purpose :/

NaNo's moving along and lately I've been thinking a lot about whether or not I like this push-forward, fast-paced writing. Keeping up the word counts can be a little overwhelming at times but for the most part that's overshadowed by the fact that I'm getting words down. Every day. I've accomplished more in a week with my NaNo story than I have in a month with my other original story. The really ironic thing, though is that this is the first time I've bowed to a writing goal. Normally, I suck at goals, my stubborn side always fighting against them. But not with NaNo. Now if I can only harness this motivation after November, because I can totally see myself setting my story aside to the point that it never gets finished until four months later (and I'll have to set it aside at least for a little while as I have other projects on the table that will need attending to).

Setting aside is not always a negative thing. Sometimes when we return it is with a fresh perspective................
Creativity works that way.........whether it is in the type of writing you do or in other fields of writing where there is no eminent deadline.

But setting something aside for too long runs the risk of developing the habit of procrastination. I don't mind having to set something aside but each time around it takes me even longer to get back to it. With my other original novel, when I first started it I was really cranking out the words. But the further along I went, the more I started setting it aside until I was lucky if I was able to write a paragraph once a week.

I really don't want to go back to that is what I'm saying. If I have to set the story aside for a time to plan things out, that's fine. If it gets so that I'm back to a paragraph a week, I'm going to be ticked. I'm hoping that my current mindset of "just get words down" will stick after NaNo is over.

the habit of procrastination

I'd be president of the Procrastinators Club if I could get around to joining ;-)

No that is not what I meant. I meant just temporarily to give it some new light.............
Too long is what I have been dealing with regarding my story of Sheppard and Afghanistan/Atlantis.....
My muse wandered away and to date has not returned.........
I still have what I started and all my notes etc., but.........

Glad to hear your NaNo story is coming along well. I'm worried about the same thing - will my motivation to keep writing this story just kind of dissipate once November 30th hits? I hope we can both stick with our stories (maybe not quite at the same frantic pace, but enough to keep it moving)!

What is it about NaNo that makes it possible to keep going? I really wish I could bottle it for later.

Yes, weather does mess up the net and phones. I've read stuff about it, heard people talk about it, experienced it. If I tried to explain what I've read I'd get it mixed up, I'm sure, but it made sense at the time. ;) Glad you're mounding up words!

What's weird about this was that it was the phones that were down but the Internet was fine. Usually when the phones are down it's a sure bet the net will be down.

What makes me nervous is that the phones kept flashing "in use." Back when we had dial up someone hijacked our modem (we ended up getting a bill for the craziest stuff) and we've been paranoid about another hijacking ever since. So I couldn't help wondering if someone was trying to get to our Internet.

Yeek! I never had that happen before. That is scary!

I apologize for the long entries in my journal today. I am catching on slowly about things. Next time I'll try to figure out how to do an LJ cut, whatever that is.

Part of my tribulations is that I have been trying to learn about a new laptop as well as break into new sites. It's lovely, I wouldn't have it any other way, but being a bear of very little brain, I have to take it little bit by little bit!
