Okay, first off, Syfy really needs to learn how to end their movies. For one, their twist endings always suck. For another, I know how they could have ended it cooler - with the monster rampaging through the streets, Synn taking it down in some cool way followed by him on his boat.

Other than that, compared to most other SyFy shows, it wasn't half bad. Wasn't great, but it didn't make me cringe and want to vomit in frustration. It was wise not to take itself too seriously, and there were competent characters enough to make up for the incompetent ones. Yes, especially Joe's character, who acted how I felt - annoyed with the idiots who were, well, being idiots. It was a mondo relief that his character didn't die. I would have been beyond ticked, not just because I liked his character, but because I hate movies that go out of their way to kill off all the males as though it's a must in horror movies.

Poor John Rhys Davies, killed minutes within the show. I thought his character would end up being the biggest annoyance of them all. Apparently not. I felt bad for the government scientist chick. I mean, yes, what happened to her was her own fault, but, still... I even felt bad for Pointdexter. But nothing screams "red shirts" like the people who won't listen to the military guy trying to keep them alive and the person who only cares about fame and fortune.

The monsters needed to put some pants on. That's all I'll say about them *whistles innocently.*

Overall, I don't think it's a movie I'll buy even with Joe in it, but I wouldn't mind watching it again because Joe! And he doesn't get killed!

I agree, it wasn't as horrible as it could have been! Pretty much the same silly mix of bad CGI, bad science, trope-abuse, silly dialogue, and spotty editing that we've come to expect from SciFi originals.

But I couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching bargainbin!Sheppard without any of Sheppard's smartass charm. Le sad.

Yeah, Synn was a very depressed version of Sheppard (reminded me a lot of how Sheppard was in season five, just very tired and jaded, but times two). I pretty much kept wanting to hug him and tell him everything would be all right.

Not a single smile or eyebrow-quirk in the whole two hours. JFlan's so terribly expressive, normally... I wonder if they killed puppies on set to keep his face perfectly unhappy for every frame?

was sort of concerned it might happen as quickly as they were
finishing off some of the characters

Poor John Rhys Davies, killed minutes within the show

I loved the comment "guess he won't be seeking re-election next time"
or words like it
:D

Sheppard like dialog:
Synn states that he does not leave anyone behind......
Only thing as much Sheppard would have been when he was in mobile contact:
"I'm kind of busy here. What do you want?"
I still chuckle at those lines.

I was totally stressing over whether or not Joe would bite it. Had he been killed, hands down the movie would have been dead to me (pun intended ;)).

I can take a lot of whump, angst, H/C but cut it when it comes to death
and particularly in that final scene where he is racing through the forest with 'mom' nipping at his heels as he throws that egg into the ravine
I kept wondering 'should I or should I not check out now???'

Oh yeah, the close up of 'whatever' it was hanging from the tail - someone had fun with that in post production!

Over all I really liked this - I laughed all the way through. As far a SyFy B-movies go - it was great!

I loved the whole failed rescue from the quick sand. I think if they'd taken themselves seriously it would have been very lame - but instead they invited the view to laugh with them instead of at them.

The humor really worked well and made it fun. The quick-sand scene was my favorite. Poor Lieutenant, trying so hard to be calm as he slowly sinks into the pit ;)

I never have expectations for ANY SyFy-made flicks, so went with the flow. It wasn't all that bad, and for some reason, the weirdly fluctuating music just held me captivated (more so than the dialogue). The humor worked well within the script, unlike most movies on SyFy which try to be so serious you go "gah!!!" I equate FP to watching a SyFy movie while on acid, well, at least what I think it would be like, never having tried it. ;)

I think Joe being in this one made me a lot more wary. Had it been anyone else I wouldn't have even thought about it, but I hope great things for Joe and worry about him becoming one of those actors stuck doing cheap sci-fi movies. But he did a great job in this, and that plus the balance of humor and serious moments made it a lot of fun to watch. I do count this as one of SyFy's better shows (though I really wish they would stop with the abrupt endings. They're not unique twists, they're obnoxious).
