Wow, that was... depressing. Which, yes, is stating the obvious. I read the books and knew what was coming but there's a bit more of an impact to it when it's visual. Plus between the previous movie and this movie it feels like one big long line of woe. But at the same time I find it fascinating, especially when I look back at the very first HP book/movie - the fun and whimsy and child-like excitement, followed by the increase of dark and gritty with each year. Though I hated how kill-happy JK got with her later books, especially Deathly Hollows, I do like how it wasn't just the kids who grew up but the story as a whole. Still, it makes me miss those early days of whimsy.

Wow, I can't believe I've seen something before you!!! :)

I'm usually all over the HP movies but this one I wasn't really interested in seeing. I have somewhat of a sixth sense when it comes to movies, in that if the movie is something I really want to see then I know I'm going to love it. If I feel "meh" about the previews then I know I'm going to be "meh" about the movie, so wait for it to come on DVD instead.

Sorry I'm late with this, I have the same response to movies... no wonder we get along so well! :)

I had kind of a love-hate reaction to part 1. I really think they should've paired it with the second part and just made one rather longer film, because it really felt like something was missing. And of course, there was, the ending! It was a slow-speed up- slow- speed up--slow mix that just felt like it dragged more than anything. The pacing was off when they made the book into a script. I haven't been too happy with the adaptations starting in book 4. Once the books got lengthy, the scriptwriters started having a hard time. :(

But to cheer you up, have you seen the promotional photos (http://www.spoilertv.com/2011/05/white-collar-episode-301-on-guard.html) from 3x01 of white collar?

Yeah, I really don't get why they had to divide it up. This movie was nothing more than filler. There was so much they could have cut out and I wish they did.

Neal wearing a purple silk scarf! *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!* thank you so much for these :D Is June here yet? *Stares at Calendar*

He is very much the pretteh in those pictures isn't he! I was watching those episodes from season one that you recommended. I really do like the show, I'm just such a whump fan that sometimes it's hard for me to watch a show that avoids it. But oh I do love the neal/peter friendship! What episodes would you recommend from season 2?

Date: 2011-05-12 08:12 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kriadydragon.livejournal.com
Yeah, the whump-lightness gets a little frustrating at times. It's part of why I ended up sucked into the fandom - I wanted whump, so wrote my own ;) Oddly enough, though, I've not only come to accept that it's whump light (even though I'm still holding out for some major Neal whump. They've whumped Peter, and Mozzie, so it stands to reason they can whump Neal) but I can't bring myself to whump Neal in heavy ways (i.e. whump him how I whump Sheppard). I've probably written more non-whump fic in this fandom than I have in SGA.

I can't remember any particular episode names (it's been so long since I saw most of season two). I think pretty much all of the first half of season two is pretty good. After all, it wasn't until season two that I fell head over heels for the show. The second half of the season, however... there were a lot of eps I was iffy about and even one ep I didn't really like. The two eps I did like from the second half of the season were what Happens in Burma and Countermeasures.

Well do you mind if I use your experience in the fandom and ask for h/c recs?

I just watched the three you recced plus the season 2 finale, and now I have to run and make dinner, but it did remind me what a good show it is!

I was sitting around waiting all day for my a/c guy to come since he couldn't give me a time and I had nothing to do. Watching some WC episodes was perfect!

Heh, funny you should ask as I've been putting together an H/C gen list for White Collar;) - http://kriadydragon.livejournal.com/252439.html.

I also have quite a few WC H/C fic as well, of course. The most popular seem to be these:

http://kriadydragon.livejournal.com/207609.html
http://kriadydragon.livejournal.com/210338.html
http://kriadydragon.livejournal.com/219320.html
http://kriadydragon.livejournal.com/230171.html - this one has Neal with a migraine. I don't know why, but out of all the fic I've written for this fandom, this one is my favorite.

WC is such a fun show and one of the few that pushes pretty much all of my buttons, even though it's whump light. I also find it rather relaxing to watch since it's so upbeat.

I'm glad that they divided it...I really would have hated if they had rushed some things in the book just to press it in one movie. The only thing I hate is that they didn't show the second part to the original planned date. The half a year wait is just too much.

I think that they found a good ending point. And truthfully, this "it isn't over feel" is something I have with all the last books of the series. I always thought that book 5,6 and 7 are more one big story. (Especiall book 6 feels like a filler).

I think from all the movies, I like 7.1 the best so far...it is very true to the book and has some really great scenes in it. And I totally expect that 7.2 will blow me away...can't wait!

Well, the thing with me is that I didn't like the wandering in the book so didn't like it in the movie, either. It was just so... tedious, and started to lose me at points. Like Kodiak Bear country said, I think they could have combined both movies into one and gotten away with making it long. I mean, each Lord of the Rings movie was three hours long and it didn't harm the franchise any.

Oh well. I did enjoy the movie, just not as much as the others.

the wandering is the smallest part of the movie...with the chase at the beginning, th ministry, Godrics Hollow (which really deserved some time), the "three bothers story", the Forest of Dean and Malfoy Manor you would have needed two hours either way, even if you cut the wedding and the scenes in the wood. That would have left only one hour tops for the break in into Gringotts, the battle of Hogwarts and the ending...and really, I think that the battle of Hogwarts alone deserves a full hour screentime. There is so much happening, with all the death, the final duell aso. You can make one movie out of this part of the book alone.

I actually don't mind the wandering, but strangely many of my friends who complained about it after reading the book, said it had exactly the right length in the movie and liked the whole mood which got transportated. (I could have done without the dancing scene, but okay).
