The original story rewrites are done! Okay, not done done but they're written. And, hey, I actually finished when I said I would :D That's a first.

Being the author, I can't say for sure if the pacing has improved, but my gut tells me it has. I feel good about what I've written, where as with the old chapters I was stuck knowing that something was wrong but being unable to figure out what it was until someone pointed it out. I may not have been accepted by that publishing company that I sent my first chapters to, but I'm so glad I made the attempt. Without that one little nit-pick that prevented my story from getting accepted, I never would have figured out why the start of my story wasn't sitting right with me.

What embarrasses me about the old chapters is that I did exactly what I despise other stories doing - bogging the plot down with info dumps. It's such a temptation to build your world and characters in the first couple of chapters that it can end up being all you focus on, which was exactly what happened with my chapters. Hopefully I've managed to remedy that in the rewrites (that is, enough so I don't have to do any more major rewrites, that was tiresome).

The original story rewrites are done!

You must be reading my mind because in my last reply to something you posted in your journal, I almost asked
And how's the original story coming along??
:D

I consider this to be a kind of milestone. I'm stubborn and sometimes lazy and before I would just accept a story as is even if I knew I needed to make some major changes. This is the first time I've rewritten massive chunks of a story, and as a result proved to myself that it is not some big scary thing to avoid at all cost (well, yes, avoid as in try to get it right to first time, but it's no longer a big deal if I don't get it right the first time.)

It's also driven home why I outline, because I've never had this much trouble with stories that I've outlined.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm seems to me that I have heard of someone else, who we both know, who can be that way too
:D

Seriously though, I am very pleased you have reached this milestone.
You must be somewhat relieved too as whenever that has happened for me,
it seems as though some weight has been lifted.

I'm so relieved it's done, but also a tad nervous. I do like what I have written but also have to wonder if it'll work or if it'll end up still needing something that will require yet another set of rewrites. Oh, the joys of writing :/ And I'm obsessive enough that I'll keep at it rather than setting it aside for the time being and writing something else.

I can't believe I'm soooo far behind with your posts! I'm going to strategically read through them but I had to read this. I'm rapt you finished the original story.
