Well, USA did it again. It got me into another show, and a lawyer show of all things. I normally despise lawyer shows but I've really been getting a kick out of Suits. It's pushing a lot of my buttons like crazy. It has cleverness, growing friendships, interesting characters and isn't forty minutes of court room drama with maybe some other stuff happening in between. There's actual investigations, and any court room scenes about five minutes long. There's also the promise of a bit of whump (though, like with White Collar, I expect it to be more a rare treat but otherwise won't hold my breath waiting for it).

But I am making an effort not to write or seek fanfic for this show, because I refuse to get sucked into another fandom. But you can not believe how tempting it is to write something because the whump fodder is through the roof. You've got the potential for sleep deprivation fic or hunger fic and Mike's issues with his buddy who's a drug dealer and Mike's past and Mike being a skinny little thing with a lot of stress being dumped on him... Ga, it's killing me! Must... resist...fic...! But I can already tell the slash is going to be through the roof. Kind of inevitable with two guys as the leads. Mostly, though, I just really don't want to get involved in another fandom.

I finally saw district 9. It was gross but... I liked it, I did. My only issue was the treatment of the aliens, as I felt it a bit exaggerated. It's like humanity forgot that these were intergalactic beings with technology far superior to humanity's. They kept treating the aliens like they were idiots. I don't know, it worked but at times I found it a tad jarring. But I was really blown away by Sharlto Copley's performance. That guy needs to be in more movies because he is seriously interesting to watch (he also plays Murdock in the A-Team movie, and makes up a large percentage of why I loved the movie so much and wish they would make a sequel. And his real life accent... *melts*). I think it's amazing that this was Sharlto's first big movie, and that they went with a relative unknown for the part. I wish Hollywood would take chances like that, because there's a lot of faces I would love to see on the big screen and a lot of faces I'm getting tired of seeing.

I haven't looked into Suits, because my first reaction was: Nah, not interested in a lawyer show. Now you've made me curious. (Whump potential ftw!)

I loved District 9 too. Saw it in the theater back when. I have the Blu-ray on my shelf, but for some reason, I haven't seen it since I bought it (which is months ago now). I don't even know why. Guess you need to be in the mood... But I do agree there as well, I thought the newbie actor was wonderful. Random fact: I have a marketing postcard stuck above my toilet that says. "Toilet use for humans only" (with a District 9 alien crossed out in red like on a street sign). Got it from a friend and thought that was very fitting to decorate my bathroom with. :-P

I wasn't going to give it a chance but I thought the guy who plays Mike (skinny guy) was hot - I'm shallow, I won't deny it ;) I've been sucked into many a show because it had a hot guy. The fact that the show didn't bore me with nothing but court room scenes really sold me. My only quibble is the treatment of Mike. He gets a lot of crap the first couple of episodes, which is understandable since he's the new guy and needs to be tested, but some of the characters just come off as jerks toward him at times.

I don't even know why. Guess you need to be in the mood...

Yeah, I'm that way, too. There's movies I bought I haven't even watched yet because I'm not in the mood, yet.

Hee-hee! I love little marketing tid bits :D I have two holographic cards from Independence Day and a Dinosaur chart I got from our Jurassic Park video.

Don't.... resist... fic! Please, pretty please! You're right with the slash though, while there were one or two great fics (whump!) they were heading towards slash. Though maybe you could check out this: http://jumpfall.livejournal.com/26930.html#cutid1 pure gen:-) I know I'm tempting you, lol, but the fandom needs some good gen writers and I love your fics and ... and... all the ideas you had above? Aw... must... not... resist... fic:-)

The temptation is strong with me :S I'm okay with eventually writing a fic (because I think I may have at least one fic in me) but I really don't want to get into it as deeply as I did SGA and White Collar. I think [livejournal.com profile] wildcat88 has a point in that a show is much more enjoyable if you don't get too deeply into fandom. White Collar used to be the show I watched to relax, now I find myself stressing out about it on occasion because I'm nervous about fandom reaction (I'm getting so protective of Neal it's not even funny, and I really don't like that).

But I've written fic without getting into a fandom before, so I can do it again! We shall see.

How about writing a crossover with White Collar? It's the same town after all. Perhaps Peter investigates one of Harveys clients...or Neal and Mike just happen to end up in the same hostage situation...*joyfully hides plotbunnies in your turf*

Nooooo! *Swats back plot bunnies ineffectually*

The tricky part, however, would be deciding who to whump the worse. Dilemmas, dilemmas ;)

Or Harvey is working for one of criminals Peter arrested and is now taking a very close look into him - *leaves some bunny food*

I Don't know - I had high hopes for Suits, but I'm not sold yet. Mostly because I can't stand Harvey. I think that everyone on the show is more interesting than him and have the desire to punch him whenever he turn up on screen.

Necessary Roughness is definitly the better new show on USA. It's funny, but I disliked the theme, the actress in her stint at White Collar and thought it would be a bore - but it already ranks place three in the USA shows for me. (Place one is White Collar, place two psych, but that might change soon if White Collar doesn't get it's drive back.)

I think Harvey one of those guys who has to grow on you. I was iffy about him at first but I like him, now. He's there for Mike without coddling him, while everyone else is either out to get him or trying not to help him at all (although... I gotta admit, his acting could use some polishing. He's a bit on the blah side at times. But I think that as the show continues and he gets more comfortable with the character he'll shine more).

We'll see - at the moment, I like the show more for the potencial than for what it is. I haven't given up on it yet.

I am really enjoying Suits, much to my surprise. And I can happily report that staying out of fandom greatly increases my enjoyment of TV watching. If you must write (which I understand), write. You can always do it for yourself.

I liked District 9 way more than I thought I would. I saw it before A-Team came out so I was delighted to see Sharlto Copley again.

BTW - did you hear that White Collar is returning to the original opening credits next week?

Reading fic usually ends up being the reason I get sucked into a fandom, but I'm thinking it won't be an issue, now. I have no desire to go through all the frustration of fic searches and ship wars and reading meta or episode reviews that have nothing positive to say about the show and characters. I'm all fandomed out :/

I so want to see Sharlto in more movies, especially in a lead role. He's one of those actors that isn't just a good actor but interesting to watch.
