For many various reasons I've decided not to do any more White Collar reviews. I've realized that ever since I started doing reviews I haven't been enjoying the show as much as I used to. I was analyzing it too much, nitpicking too much, thinking too deeply about it and it was sucking a lot of the fun out of it for me (even though, yes, most of my posts were squee posts). I want to enjoy the show as is without thinking too much about it. I will still discuss the show when the mood strikes, and may read other people's reviews, but no more reviewing for me. Sorry :(

All I have to say about this week's episode is that I liked it, a lot, and that's all I'll say. Whether you liked it or not is fine, but I would rather not discuss it.

OWWW! So sorry to hear that! I must say that I was looking forward to read your reviews, I relied to them and I agreed with your views most of the times. Plus you are such a marvelous writer! But of course you are entitled to do as you wish. Please do not stop writing fanfic, can't wait for them!

I did enjoy writing them, but the result was me ending up too invested in the show, and in a way that was making me unhappy. I'll still talk about the show and definitely write fanfic, just not write reviews.

Mmm, I've recently come to a similar decision as regards reading reviews, at least fan reviews. I realized that it was making me feel too frustrated and uptight about things, and draining away some of my ability to simply sit back and enjoy things for what they were. I wound up being too easily bothered by what bothered other people (or rather, the fact that they were bothered by it), rather than just liking what I liked and shrugging off what I didn't, not taking a show's ups and downs too seriously.

I have to say, I'm sad to see you stop reviewing, considering your posts were my one real exception to the rule. *g* I've always found your reviews by and large upbeat, and (as your tastes seem to run extremely similar to mine most of the time) a much more accurate indicator than most of what I could look forward to, or what would likely bug me. But I certainly understand the decision. And I think in the long run, it's likely to contribute more to simple enjoyment of the show. ^.^

This pretty much sums up my issue. I'm not really much of a nit-picker at heart and all the nit picking I was doing and reading was really starting to bring me down. Not only that, I was becoming one of those over-protective fans, mostly of Neal, but also of the show itself, and it was making me nervous (because we all know how weird and volatile overly protective fans can be). Like you, I would rather take the good, shrug off the bad and just enjoy the show for what it is - not perfect, but still a ton of fun.

I don't watch it, but wondered if you were really enjoying it..It seems when we review something it then begins so much of an analysis that the enjoyment part of it takes back seat........to analysis.

NOW I want you to try out Memphis Beat

I still love the show, but feel I would love it better if I didn't nitpick it so.

As I said, my mom watches Memphis Beat and I'm usually in the room when she does. Though I do like it okay, it hasn't sucked me in enough to want to write fic for it, sorry.

Probably a good decision! :) I am absolutely loving the show, and I really don't want to let the fandom do to me what happened in season 5 of SGA, when I still wanted to be fannish about the show and was having it ruined for me by the unhappiness and nitpicking of the fanfic/fandom. (I am definitely not trying to blame fandom for this, even though it probably sounds like it; it's not anyone else's fault that they weren't as happy with the show as I was. Just ... I wish I'd been able to learn to stay away from the unsquee before it spoiled my fun, and I really don't want that to happen with White Collar!)

It's interesting how changing something so seemingly small can make such a big difference, because as soon as I decided to stop writing reviews, I was feeling a lot more comfortable with the show. It was getting so that I was stressing about each new episode, wondering if it was going to do something that I would end up hating, or that someone else would end up hating and I would have to hear about it. But with the recent episode, I just stopped worrying about it and enjoyed it as is.

I love to analyze and discuss but I think, for me, it's something I need to do sparingly when it comes to shows.

Totally agree with you. I was thinking along the same lines. Too much nitpicking can do that to a show. And I don't necessarily mean you, but many others, especially over at http://whitecollarfic.livejournal.com/, where some people want only logical explanations, actions, exclusively "into the characters" writing of the show, and some people seem to just not be happy with anything on the show lately, no matter what the producers do! I agree that each of us would probably do things differently at some point, but let's just seat back and enjoy!
On another note, please do not stop writing, your stories are always exquisite! Lately, all you could read on FF are spanking or slashy stories , which I personally don't believe that suit the characters very well, especially the spanking ones.

Yeah. This is why I've stopped reading reviews as well (except for a very select few who I know try to focus more on the squee rather than non-squee). The show isn't perfect, and will always do something we don't like, but both reading and writing reviews was getting me to focus too much on the negative (and ironically, the whole reason I started reviewing was to help me really hone in on the positive, which obviously ended up doing the opposite).

No worries, I have no intentions to stop writing fic :D I really enjoy writing WC fic.
