First off, Japanese Steak House *drools while dying of a food coma* My mom and sister were meh about it but I loved it, and the little show the chef puts on is teh awesome (our chef was very funny). I love food, or I should say I love the experience of food. When I eat I want to enjoy what I eat. That means waiting until I'm hungry instead of eating whenever and making something with as much flavor as possible. Or going out to eat.
Second off, some Suits thoughts regarding last night's episode.
Suits should be another show, like White Collar, where I enjoy all the characters - even Louis - but Rachel, that Rachel. Argh! What is her problem? She is such a jerk to Mike when all he's been is nothing but nice and, in the case of this episode, helpful. And, yeah, sometimes she is nice to him and has even helped him, only to turn around and give him the sub-zero shoulder and I don't get it. Not only that, she's also coming across as a hypocrite - all ready to cheat on the LSATS only to give Mike the third degree for his shady past without giving him the chance to explain. I swear it was like she was just waiting for him to give her a reason to hate him.
I get the feeling she's trying to keep Mike at arm's length, that she likes him but for some reason also feels threatened by him (or, more accurately, threatened by the fact that she likes him). Her actions remind me of Cruz from White Collar. I always felt Cruz was rather harsh to Neal. Not out-right mean, but rude and condescending, and it always gave me the impression that she secretly liked Neal, felt threatened that she liked him, so put distance between them by being sarcastic to him on a daily bases.
And it did no more favors for Cruz than it's doing for Rachel. I'm sure there's a whole story arc behind why Rachel treats Mike the way she does but it's making her incredibly difficult to like and sympathize with her.

Date: 2011-07-30 07:42 am (UTC)From:As for the LSATS thing, well, Mike's past had to come out some time. And I'm kinda glad it's just Rachel so far and not Luis or one of the other associate kids.
I think Rachel likes Mike a lot more than she lets on, which, like you said, makes her keep Mike at arm's length. Also, she's a woman in a man's world. That's gotta be tough. She has to put up that snarky, sarcastic exterior just to make it in the cut-throat lawyer business.

I think it's more jealousy. I agree with what
Mike's secret coming out wasn't what I had a problem with but Rachel's reaction. I found it rather hypocritical of her to give him the third degree when she was ready to hire someone to take the test for her. It's like she wants to dislike Mike, and is looking for every reason to dislike him, and that makes her rather difficult to like.

Date: 2011-07-30 10:53 am (UTC)From:I understand why should wouldn't date at the job, but I'm so with you concerning the last ep (btw, suit gets better and better after a rocky start): I really don't get how she can sit on a high horse after she tried to cheat and Mike risked to meet her there to talk her out of it. At this rate, I'm hoping that she passes the bar soon and will be off to Harvard....
I would rather see more of Donna, she rocks (and the actress is great, the one who plays Rachel is a little bit stiff).

Date: 2011-08-02 05:20 pm (UTC)From:Go check out On Your Mark's story, "Brokedown" on AO3 - an AU to last week's ep that's so heartbreaking, but believable. http://archiveofourown.org/works/232652
As for Rachel - she's got a huge chip on her shoulder and as much as she says she wants to make it her own way, she's got that whole "You're not my social equal, therefore, I won't/can't date you" thought rattling around the back of her head and it definitely is affecting her interactions with Mike. She likes him, she wants to go out with him, but he's not her social equal....
