And in this dream... there was James Bond (Timothy Dalton era) and some awesome dragon riding later on but that's not important. What's important was this... "scene" I guess you could call it - one piddly scene I find myself obsessed with. A young man armed only with a tarnished sword and some kind of stick-blade deal is sneaking past these guards. The setting looks almost Feudal Japan-ish or something, and the young man makes a noise that distracts the guards and the young man slips past them, heading around this building and... and... I woke up, never knowing what it was the young man was after.
And now I want to do something with this scene, possibly combine it with the dragon-riding aspect (but not the James Bond aspect. That would be weird). But it's been a while since I've done a fantasy of that nature (and it would be fantasy because the scene had a very fantasy feel) and on top of that, well, dragon riding stories have been done a lot. Anyone sick of them, yet? And I've done dragon riding stories by the ton (even if some won't be written). But... but... but...
Oh, who cares! It's dragon riding and sneakiness and the guy was hot!
Oh, dreams, you always vex me like this so. I do hope to be able to do something with this "scene" because short as it was, it was interesting, and has so much potential, even though it feels like forever since I did a fantasy set in some ancient world.

Atmosphere, yes, exactly. I had two Dr. Who dreams that I really want to turn into stories. I started one and... I'm not really happy with it, because it just doesn't feel right, not like how it felt in the dream. In fact I may need to start it over.
The problem with the current dream, as I told your sister, is that it's the kind of story I'm just not interested in at the moment. Ancient Sword and sorcery has become a sporadic and rare thing for me these days, and to think such stories up I have to be in the mood like crazy, and getting into that mood is difficult. I'm all about urban fantasies and unusual worlds these days, and Terry Prachett is being a bad influence on me right now.
