I cried! I never cry for movies but this one made me cry! When Rue dies *wibbles* and Katniss breaks down *wibbles some more* and District 11 revolts *more wibbling*

I liked a lot about this movie but one thing I really liked is how you felt bad for all the tributes, even the ones acting like jerks. Because, really, this isn't their fault. This is survival, and the district being jerks. It was violent but in no way did it glorify violence, and the movie portrayed that wonderfully.

John Carter. So, apparently, this didn't do well? Well, don't let box office numbers fool you. I really enjoyed this. It was fun and exciting, with something a little Star Wars-esque about it (*cough*and the lead mostly shirtless through the whole thing*cough*), and I loved the aliens.

Oh, John Carter sounds like fun, then! ;-D

And I'm seeing Hunger Games sometime. I've decided to.

You know, I was a little iffy about this year's spring-summer movies but so far it's been great :D It's been forever since I saw two movies in the same month, and I plan to see another this week (Wrath of the Titans). Then there's the Avengers, Jack the Giant Killer looks interesting, and we just saw previews for Snow White and the Huntsman which looks awesome (dare I say almost Tolkein-esq image-wise).

So much to see! *saves money like crazy*

I really enjoyed John Carter too! I don't get why it didn't do well, 'cause I thought it was really fun. Very Star Wars-esque, too, yes :o)

The Hunger Games is on my to watch list. Will hopefully be going next week!

I read somewhere that JC did great world-wide, so really it didn't bomb at all.

Hunger Games is definitely must see :D

So how did the film compare to the book you read??
Not surprised about Carter.....It looks good from trailer and will add it to my DVD from the library list,
which continues to grow with astonishing proportions daily.......
>;-)

The film definitely lived up to the book, IMO. Both were really good.

I read somewhere that though JC didn't break the box office in the states it did worldwide so that's good. It's the kind of movie they need to make more of, I think - good old fashioned sci-fi adventures.

".....good old fashioned sci-fi adventures"

If that is the case, I am there for sure.......
Just from the trailer I figured it was a winner....
at least for me.......
Thank you!!

Saw John Carter - LOVED it. Never read the book, but DLed on my Kindle and will do. I read where lots of the elements we see in current scifi could be traced back to this and I did:
Star Wars: The aliens and the rider
I saw hits of Star Trek's - Bird of Prey's ships in the large battle ships
John Carter - remains me so much of John Sheppard of Stargate Atlantis and the warrior/scientist princess of Teyla. Especially the fact that he is such a lost soul. When he sends the princess away with a - "I will not be late again" and takes on all those aliens reminded me of John in combat mode in the Storm. The fact that they end up in strange worlds and defending them also holds true. This could also ring true of John C of Farscape.

There was also hints of Stargate SG-1(the Ori) and Fringe with the shape shifers.

I'm sure there is more. ERB was very much ahead of his time.

I don't know much about the book, either, but now I want to read it :D I feel like good old fashioned sci-fi movies like JC are in short supply. Mostly it's alien invasion movies, and though I do enjoy them, I would love to see more space adventure movies.
