kriadydragon: (Obi-Wan)
I took a spill down the stairs. Thankfully it was a slide and not a tumble (yay for quick reflexes!) But my right foot took the brunt. I can still walk on it, but bend it the wrong way and it hurts. I'm pretty sure it's sprained or something (and... what was it you do for sprains? Ice, elevate and a wrap?) and my tailbone aches :P

I always knew that one day those stairs would best me. Evil, evil stairs. Get 'em Obi-wan!

Oh my word, been there, done that, but my nosedive down a flight of stairs featured several fractures to my left foot, a bunged up left knee, thank goodness not that injury athletes have which requires surgery, and a bunged up left shoulder when I came to a stop at the railing on the first landing......
Are you sure your foot is not broken? Initially I was
convinced mine was a sprain too

I hope it's not :S But I can move it some and I would imagine that if it were broken I wouldn't be able to move it at all, or touch it, or even walk on it. But... I could be wrong.

Eep! :S

I was able to do all of that too.......in fact walked out to my car, okay hobbled out there, and drove myself to the ER
I was sure I had just sprained it and did not believe it till he whips out the X-ray.
Despite fractures, the biggest problem was the damage I did to my left leg, knee and shoulder.........but thankfully no broken neck as the doctors at ER warned me could have happened........or broken hip. I am still trying to figure out how I ended up on my back with my left foot hooked in the arm railing on staircase
I mean I fell forward with railing on right???

Owwwww. D:

I really messed up my right ankle a few years ago when I tripped while running and folded it over. I never did see a doctor about it -- like you said: wrap, ice & elevate, and I also tried to walk as little as possible for a couple of weeks. It actually took years to heal to the point where it no longer hurt when I'd step on that foot the wrong way, which probably means that going to the doctor would have been the sensible thing to do. :/

Eep! Now I'm wondering if I should go to the doctor :S I'm the type that if I can still function and I'm not at risk of bleeding out I let things resolve themselves. So I'm torn between waiting to see if it starts clearing up at all or getting it checked right away. I know it sounds kind of foolish not to go in but I don't have insurance so if I go it I want it to be fore something that needs treating, not to pay a ton of money to hear what I already know. It's quite the conundrum :/

Well, I'm the same way ... obviously. *g* I don't think it was a disastrous decision on my part not to get it looked at -- it did eventually heal, and my foot works fine (there is still a bit of weakness in that ankle compared to the other one, 6 years later, but it certainly doesn't inhibit me from doing anything I want to do). So I'd say that as long as it's not, say, swelling up horribly and preventing you from walking at all, there's no need to worry too much. (I give the worst medical advice ever, probably.)

Feel ya, babe. Been there, done that, broke my tailbone and tore the ligaments in my ankle. Handfuls of ibuprofen and a rubber donut (for sitting) were my friends for months! Hope the same hasn't happened to you.

Ugh, I could use a donut right now (both the rubber kind and the pastry, with lots of frosting and sprinkles). Although sitting in the computer chair isn't so bad.

Oh, ouch, nasty. D:

I hope you're doing better soon! Be careful to take good care of that foot... Sprains can be even nastier than breaks, as far as actual healing's concerned - longer recovery, and easily re-injured for a long time afterward. :( You might want to consider seeing a doctor about it, if you can, to make sure you're taking the best course for healing that you can.

I am doing better, actually :D At least where my ankle is concerned. The tailbone is still aching but my ankle is showing big signs of improvement. I'm thinking it's been majorly bruised, and that the swelling exacerbated it, and now that the swelling's gone down my ankle is able to function better.

But because I've been using my other foot to get up and down, now it's sore :/ I just can't win with my body, lately.

Oh, sorry to hear that. Funny that today I picked up my refill of prescription Ibuprofen. Tripped and fell almost 3 weeks ago over junk I left in my way. Bruises and bruised ego! But I re-injured my chest muscle from cancer surgery a few years ago. Damn, not again! Don't you just hate it when stuff like this happens? Puts one in a bad mood. God help the people around me; bitchy, bitchy me.

Ugh :P It forever boggles me how small things can make life so miserable. I once got this... cramp or pulled muscle or something in my side that wouldn't let me sleep, and I had no idea how I injured myself!

That's the worst, when silly little things that shouldn't really hurt us, do. The fall I took should not have been a big deal, but when there's a weak spot, that's what gives. I started Yoga about two years ago, and it has helped me immensely. Lately, I'm taking an art class that conflicts with my favorite Yoga instructors' class, so I have been missing classes. And so of course I am slacking with the practice. So I would like to blame this on my recent injury. Lazy, slacker girl that is possessing me, all her fault. Feels better to blame someone else. Ha!

Oh Hun, aren't we a pair? I'm sitting here with a cryo-cuff around my recently had surgery knee. I've been trying to care for a sick dog and not taking care of myself in the process. I was on my knees trying to comfort my puppy at the vet (he was staying overnight and had never been away from home except to my brothers or my brother in laws.

You should wrap it, ice it, and elevate it. I did something similar in Paris two years ago. It was black and blue. My poor nephew was trying to cope with me, he wasn't yet 21. Picture me trying to talk to a pharmacist who speaks very little english... LOL! But, we figured it out.

Get off your feet...

It must be a year for injuries :P I'm a little worried about going into the animal shelter this week if things don't clear up enough to be functional. I can call in sick but... I don't want to! *whines*

I spent today laying around with and icepack on my ankle. It's helped a lot, and I'm thinking I just bruised myself really bad. My tailbone is still pretty dang uncomfortable, but I'm relieved that so far nothing seems to be serious.

I also hope your injuries aren't serious. Injuries suck!

Me too, I cramped up today in the run. I think I'm going to hurt tomorrow! :P

Stairs can be pretty bad, but at least it wasn't a nose-dive down a ladder!

*shudders* Ladders freak me out for that reason. And standing on chairs, which makes me despise changing light bulbs.
