Apparently I'm prone to getting sporadically and monumentally obsessed with the strangest things. I recall very vividly when the first X-Men movie was coming out. I had read the book version of it first, which turned out to be a big mistake because it made me so obsessed with seeing the movie that for a week, maybe more than a week, it was all I could think about. I didn't want to be obsessed with it, but it's like once my mind latches on to something it won't let go until it's good and ready, and yet I have no say in the matter despite it being my brain :S
So here I am being all grateful that I haven't been that obsessed with anything in years when, suddenly, I'm obsessed again - this time over a favorite actor gaining a wee bit of muscle (and nothing all that drastic either) and I'm all upset because I liked the character he plays skinny even though said actor himself looks hot and... yeah, I had no idea what my problem was, there (Well, no, that's not true. I eventually figured it out. It wasn't that the actor got a bit of muscle - because, really, as I said, it isn't anything major and he's still wonderfully slender and, really, he needed to put a little meat on his bones because he was looking kind of sickly - it was more my issue with actors who feel the need to bulk up. I mean, adding muscle and being healthy is all fine and well and more power to you if it is a health thing, but there's a point where it just doesn't look good . It's kind of like with women who feel the need to be uber skinny. Trust me, dropping weight or bulking up gratuitously is not attractive. I even overheard two guys talking about a particular actress and how she was more creepy than attractive because she was so dang skinny. And I guess I was worried about this particular actor becoming one of "those" actors who feel the need to get ripped simply for the sake of his image. Which I definitely don't think is the case for him, but like I said, once my brain latches onto something it won't let go, and it was only yesterday that it finally let go).
Brains are weird! And to make myself feel better, has anyone else found themselves inexplicably obsessed with something trivial yet persistent?

I do NOT like bulky.......and it bothers me when someone feels the need to bulk up.
Lean muscle definition, ie 'musculature' defines healthy
not big and bulky....
UGH!

Years ago I did some body building using free weights mainly but some Universal equipment also....... and my instructor, who had won several important body building contests, and who was NOT bulky, told me
lean muscle is not bulk, it is instead well defined
'musculatur'........(it is also known as well defined 'cuts' in serious body building).
The long lean look is what is healthy
I was worried about being bulky and Dick said 'not unless
you use anabolic steroids'.......
I love the long lean muscle look and in serious fitness that is what it is, NOT bulk which to me is UGLY whether it is male or female.
I know some like that really big and bulky gorilla HULK look but I consider it abnormal.

washing hands, checking doors to make sure they are locked properly, counting items etc.

I know, I know, I am making light but I think we ALL have
things that become quite important
I like to see it that way not as obsessions.

Date: 2012-08-28 05:05 pm (UTC)From:A TV program was commenting on hunks of years gone by and today. Pointed out that Sean Connery of James Bond fame did not have a 6-pack in 60's/70's. But today it is "required". Of course I also remmender basketball players having smaller shorts and not the oversize ones they wear today!

Date: 2012-08-29 12:12 am (UTC)From:But I recall my steps aerobics instructor saying how just because someone is ripped - even heavily ripped - doesn't mean they're necessarily uber strong - that, in fact, they really aren't - and I thought that interesting since most people tend to associate ripped with strength. He said it's why those Olympic weightlifters look rather fat, because they're actually not fat they're heavily muscled, and that muscle built for strength purposes has a tendency to look more like fat. It was fascinating stuff.
