*Gibbers a hundred miles per hour insanely. Clears throat!*

Yeah, sorry.

I'm done! Recent original not-fanfic-at-all story is done! and my wrists hurt so bad now! It's pretty much been an almost non-stop finish to the end, which I thought for sure wouldn't happen until next week. The climax and the denouement I thought for sure would be the toughest parts to write, and they were, but by then I had reached the point of "I can edit it later I just want to get this done!" and I managed to push through instead of writing a few paragraphs then having to stop, which has pretty much been the story of this story. Some weeks I was lucky to get two pages done. And until something else comes along that proves to be harder, I'm deeming this story the hardest thing I've written, evah! (And it's ironic because, as of right now - though this will change, I already know it - this is the shortest story I've written, barely coming over 200 pages. Which, yes, is short for me, trust me).

I've mentioned before in other posts how this story was a lot more character driven than past stories, and I believe that's why it was so difficult. Lots of complicated situations, complicated emotions, and that made for complicated characters that were rather tricky to write. I would get hung up on a lot of small stuff. For example, how character A should respond to what character B said, as in what he should say exactly, what character A's opinion of this minor little detail is, and so on. I'm a very "get as much right as possible the first time around" kind of writer, and as much as I would like to breeze through things and come back later and work out the details during editing, those minor details - from what a character says to how they say it (a lot of the problem was dialogue, you see) - are what helps me figure the characters out and makes the editing process go a lot smoother.

Thing is, this is the story I plan on making a sort-of series. And now I have to wonder what I've gotten myself into. But my hope is that now that I know this characters that the future stories in this universe will be a lot more cooperative. I already have the next story in mind, but I don't plan on writing it next. I'm in the mood for something fun and want to try my hand at a bit of comedy. After that, I may then revisit this world and write the next book.

But first... *passes out in relief*

Gah! It's so nice to be done. Especially since this story was actually making me question whether or not I wanted to keep being a writer. That's how difficult it was being.

Although I also have to wonder if the reason this story was being difficult was because the story I actual wanted to write was book two, which of course I couldn't do until I wrote book one. Thoughts of book two were often what helped keep me going at times.

Oh well done! When you regain consciousness please go do something fun (like go outside in the sun :)) before you hit the editting phase :)

Thanks! :D Hey, how's your book coming along? Are you still working on the one about the two brothers?

Date: 2013-07-09 01:21 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] titan5.livejournal.com
I've done a lot of research and outlining for the book about the two brothers, but I put it on hold for now. I've pulled my original book out to revise and rewrite. I tried that before and gave up, but this time I've read a lot more on editing and revising, plus attended a webinar, so I feel more prepared. I'm starting a new outline to work in all the twists I'm adding so I can actually start the revision process. Wish me luck because I'm not very good at that (LOL)!

Heh, don't worry, you will get better at the revision thing ;) I used to despise editing and revising but now I love it, because that's where you begin to see the story really start coming together. Rewriting... I still have issues with that myself, because if a story is in need of a major rewrite then I tend to lose the motivation to tackle it ever again. I have two stories I did ages ago that need to be totally rewritten, and I still haven't been able to bring myself to do it (although with one of them it's more to do with having hit this major plot brick-wall of doom that I can't seem to get over than having lost interest).

Any way, good luck with yours ;)

Thanks, I'll probably need a little luck. I quit the last time because I realized I was going to have to add so much as for the story to virtually have to be rewritten. I find myself excited this time because I see the possibilities for this to become something much greater than its original form. Anyway, good luck with your writing as well.

I seem to remember a story you had posted the first chapter or two of a long time ago that I REALLY liked - I want to say the title had Dragon in it, but I might be mixing that up. The main character was Jace I think, or something like that. Anyway, I really liked what you had on that one. Any chance it's still around?

Hmmm. Maybe that was Black Dragon, I can't remember. Sadly I think that one ended up on the "maybe" pile of stories to be written. It was meant to be a series, but considering the difficulty I have just trying to write trilogies, I've been trying to decide whether I want to keep BD small - about three books - do a multi-book thing, or if I would have enough motivation to keep it as a series. I'm such a glutton for punishment when it comes to my stories, because I always make so many of them these big, epic things but I have yet to follow through on any of them :/

Well, if you ever revive it let me know. I really liked that one!

:D Congrats, that is awesome! Heh, and here's hoping the characters prove more cooperative in the future endeavors, now that you've wrestled with them and worked out some of the development issues... *g*

Thanks :D And, yes, I'm really crossing my fingers that they prove easier to write in future stories (and that I stick with this story and actually write future books. I tend to have the worst luck with series and trilogies).

Thank you :D I'm curious to how your story's coming along - the one with the slave. You gave us a taste and it's made me want to know what happens ;)

*blushy* I'd about forgotten I posted that part of the story. 'Tis a bit stalled at the moment. (Character development? CHECK! Plot? Umm...I'll get back to you on that once I've research ancient history for another decade.)

I'm trying to re-write an (extremely) AU fanfic I wrote hundreds of thousands of words, and turn it original. And what you said about reaching the "I can edit it later I just want to get this done!" mindset is totally where I need to be. So yes...you totally are an inspiration to buckle down. ;D

Heh-heh... research is scary O.o I have so many stories I keep shoving to the back of my story to-do list because of research. I'm surprised I even wrote my current story since it required quite a bit of research (and, sadly, Google and the library are only so helpful. Because of course when I research Ireland I totally want fiction and tour guides... um, no. No I don't, Google).

And what you said about reaching the "I can edit it later I just want to get this done!" mindset is totally where I need to be.

Heh, I only managed to get that mindset toward the end of the story. The rest of the time I was all "Yay, I got a page done! Time to go play video games!" ^^;

I should write a major AU fanfic and then turn it into original fic. I bet I'd get it done faster. Fanfic is so much easier to write.
